Just trying to get an idea of costs of a nanny-share, 5 days a week in SW London. Any experience out there please?

If I have one child and the people I shared with have two children, would we split the costs 50-50 or 33-66?

Thanks!

50-50 I'm afraid! Tho if you only need the nanny for example 2 days and the other family need her 5, you would only pay 50-50 for the 2 days. Does that make sense?!

Thanks MissGT - thought it would be 50-50, that's fair enough. any estimates on cost from anyone please? just rethinking my work and childcare options..

Whereabouts are you based and what sort of hours. In London the going rate is £8-10 per hour net or about £10-12 per hour for a nanny share I believe, so it would prob cost you about £5-6 per hour for the hours you are sharing the nanny, and £8-10 for the hours you have her/him to yourself!

Hi there - am in Battersea. Thinking 8-6 four days a week and 9-5 one day a week. Thanks again.

Oh I'm in Battersea too! Think I will stick with the orig cost estimate in that case. My last job was a nanny share in Battersea and it was £10hr for both families or £8 for one... Left about 20 mo ago so you might be looking at a slight increase, and it can vary according to how experienced the nanny is.

Does the £5-6 it would cost me include all tax etc? Or are there extra costs on top of that? I have never thought about nannies before and the idea of a share is very appealing, though my CM is utterly lovely too.

No, sorry should have added that it would be net... I am terrible at working out tax on top and not really sure how it goes with sharing the tax code (splitting the tax free allowance etc) but I think there is a guide on www.nannyjob.co.uk or I'm sure NannyNick could advise!

The 50:50 or 33:66 split is very much dependent on the arrangement/negotiation you have with the other family. We have nanny-shared in the past and paid 66% with the other family (single child) paying 33%. For us it was worth it as their contribution meant that our expenses were the same as nursery costs (just about). Just make sure you split the tax code as this gives you (both families) an NI saving, and the nanny gets a little extra too.
No idea on current nanny costs per hour though.
