Mothers Help......

This is what I would really like when I go back to work, not a 'nanny' as such. My job is shifts (I am a nurse) and work different days every week. I would like someone to look after my dd (who will be 10 months) in my own home and help out with collecting my ds from nursery/ washing/ cleaning etc on 2 days a week. Is this realistic? what should I be looking for in potential people? what pay would you recommend? thanks for any help!

It will be tricky if you're trying to hire someone who will be available and want to work a different 2 days each week. The pay should be higher to reflect this, or you may have to pay a retainer for the rest of the week as the person won't be able to find another job.

If you are working during the day and someone is looking after your children for the whole day, or even most of it, that is a sole charge nanny, not a mother's help. Pay will depend on your area as well.

if you are not there and the postion inc sole charge that IS a nanny even if only 2 days a week!

just a part time one!

sounds like you need a nanny, but want a cleaner / housekeeper / mothers help

and dont want the cost of a nanny !? lol

I agree hard if diff days each week, as nanny wouldnt be able to get another job to go with it

would you be willing to accept a nanny with own child?

may get more interest if so

Babycheesus, the job description that you give is that of nanny/housekeeper not a mothers help.

A mothers help is just that. It is my understanding that they do very little sole charge care (likely to work for a sahm).

Newly or unqualified nannies may start off as a mothers help before moving on to a sole charge position.

Regarding salary, experience obviously affects this greatly, and you should be paying a nanny/housekeeper at the same rate as a sole charge nanny.

Hope this helps, Im sure others will be around soon if Im wrong!

babycheesus I am looking for the same as I am also going back to shift work

have you asked in the area for a childminder who would work part time? some of them may prefer working part time and having different days off as long as it is arranged in advance and they're not mucked about at short notice

good luck

sounds like you are looking for a 2 day a week nanny and if different days each week pay should reflect this as many nannies who work 2 days a week will work 2 or 3 days for another family.

and if you require cleaning too this is a nanny/housekeeper.

depending on nannies quals and exp and the area you are you will be looking at paying around £8 net an hr as its part time.
