We are possibly interested in a mother's help/ shared care nanny/ au pair (God help us) and I have seen many references on here to 'house manuals, time/chore sheets' etc. that you all have for your respective employees.

I would love to see some examples of this as I'm a fairly organised person and want to type something up for whomever we hire. Please email anything at all (can be small or 10 pages long, I like details ) to [email protected]

Thank you all!!!

I'll send you ours - it's for an AP.

henrys7thwife · 07/01/2009 17:56

Thank you very much Weegle!! Anyone else?

I have a list of chores type of thing. By posting here I hope to come back to this easily but won't be able to anonymise it and forward it to you until after I've walked the dog and got the kids off to bed. I should be able to do it by about 9.30pm.

frannikin · 07/01/2009 19:21

I can send you the time plan I've made for myself (as a nanny/governess) which includes all the things that my employer expects me to do, but equally as a nanny I'd have been quite annoyed if I'd been handed a time-sheet with things that I had to do at certain times. It's fine for you to do that to an AP/MH though - I just prefer to think, particularly for this post, that if I'm being hired for my experience and qualifications then I don't need these kind of things spelt out for me and will be able to organise my own time much more efficiently.

nannyL · 07/01/2009 19:42

agree with frannikin
as a nanny i dont have a chore sheet, have never had one, would never want one and would be insulted to get one!

I appreciate i am a very experianced sole charge nanny, which might not be what you are planning to employ, but im pretty sure none of my friends have anything similar!

I do the jobs during the week when i feel like, feel the children what i like feeding them at a time that i decide depending on our activites etc.

nbee84 · 07/01/2009 21:11

As a nanny I would be happy for my employer to give me a list detailing chores that are expected of me within my role, foods that you want/do not want your child to be fed, and activities that you would like included in a typical week. You would then leave the nanny to plan her own routine that suits her and the children. If that is the sort of thing you are thinking of for your nanny that would be fine, but a day by day/hour by hour breakdown would be heavily frowned upon by most nannies (and a deal breaker!). A young, inexperienced nanny in her first job may well accept it, but it is really the sort of thing that you would do for an AP.

As a naany (17yrs exp) I agree with Frannikin but wasn`t sure how to word it.

It would definately put my back up if I was handed a list, but it is probably needed for an au-pair.

Don`t be put off by any horror stories. Surely if you recruit thoroughly, you will choose help that has initiative and is able to plan her own day.

I find that if you treat people with repect, you will get it back in spades.

I would be more inclined to discuss the role and your expectations at interview to see if you can work together.

henrys7thwife · 07/01/2009 22:55

Simply and frannikin I would love to see both of your documents. Thanks all of you nannies for the advice that you wouldn't want a list of duties - I was thinking more for an Au Pair and possibly mother's help (and for my own sanity as well!).

henry7thwife I've sent you the timetable. Please check your spam folder if it hasn't already arrived and let me know on this thread if it fails to appear.

henrys7thwife · 07/01/2009 23:40

Simply I haven't received it. It is not in spam or inbox.

I would say it's absolutely imperative for a good AP relationship - they aren't nannies, and wonderful experienced ladies. They really need guidance else you're heading in to massive problems on both sides before you start. In my experience AP's APPRECIATE such lists - I expect precisely because they aren't experienced in domesticity and childcare and also because they are living as a member of the family and as such need to find their role without treading on others toes or missing off expectations.

Simply · 08/01/2009 12:16

henrys7thwife I'll send you a plain e-mail without an attachment now. If you get it then you can reply and I'll send the attachment a second time.

henrys7thwife · 08/01/2009 13:17

Simply I still haven't received anything from you.

Grrr! It'll let me e-mail cupofteaplease without any problem! Okay. I'll try again using my other e-mail address. It has my full RL name in it so I try not to use it for MN until I get to know people better but I'm sure you'll keep schtum (sp).

Simply · 08/01/2009 13:25

Right. I've e-mailed you. 3rd time lucky, I hope! I had this with a MNer months ago and they turned out to be in a junk folder. I have two junk folders, the normal one and the branded anti-spam one. I have to check both regularly, which is a nuisance. Hey ho.

manicmama · 08/01/2009 14:04

@ henrys7thwife - I just posted a similar question and then saw your thread. Any chance you could pass on some of the 'house manuals, time/chore sheets' etc as I am about to take the plunge and take on an au pair?

My e-mail is:
manicmama [at] btinternet [dot] come

(Sorry - written in funny way to avoid spam!)

Many thanks

henrys7thwife · 08/01/2009 17:42

Simply I still don't have any messages from you. Are you sure you're inputing my email address correctly? I haven't had a problem receiving messages from other MN'ers, and I only have 1 spam folder on my Yahoo account. How odd!
manicmama I have only received 2, neither are anonymised so I think you should ask the other mums first as they contain some personal info (numbers, names of children, etc.)

I've been copying and pasting it into the "To" box so now I'll try typing it in. Just a mo.

Simply · 08/01/2009 18:16

Okay. It looks just the same as the copy and paste one but we'll see if it gets there. I can CAT you if it doesn't work. That's if you're set up to receive them?

henrys7thwife · 08/01/2009 22:55

Simply - I have received it now...not sure why typing it in helped but it seems to have! Looking forward to receiving your documents now Don't have CAT unfortunately but seems irrelevant now. Thank you.
