Am in mind bending fiscal ordeal.

After years at home I am considering going back to work. I am trying to work out a rough guide to childcare costs as I will be probably be part time initially at least.

HOw would you charge for a school/nursery drop off (same place) and an hours care? Same pick up at 3.15 for about 1h 30 mins?

Or Same in the morning with picking up a 3 year old at 12 for lunch and the afternoon and picking up 5 yr old at 3.15. Both kids until 4.45.

What about holidays?

i think hours charged would vary dramatically too depending on area tbh

I am not your area but in the north east, and I would probably only charge for the hours the children were in my care (but then I am struggling as a new childminder in an area with alot more cm than mindees

hope someone will be along soon to help you more

You can obtain contact details plus sometimes pricing info from Edinburgh Childcare Information Service: Online Search

You may find that some childminders will do after-school care for a fixed daily cost, rather than per-hour. School holidays may be a fixed daily cost.
Your 3 year old however will be taking an under 5's childcare place... so you may find you need to pay all day even though they are attending nursery.
It varies so much between individual childcare providers as to how they charge that it is very hard to give any clear indications as to likely costs. Probably best getting in touch with a few local childcare providers and asking them directly how much they would charge, plus if they have the spaces available, collect from the particular school/nursery.

A long way from Edinburgh , but I would charge for the older child a hours care in the morning, a minimum o two hours in the afternoon.

For the younger child a hour in the morning at full charge, half charge while child is at nursery full charge till 5.00 (don't do less than a hours charge)

Drop off charge is 1.50 a day each.

Thank you all.

hmmm. Think I will have to start phoning round. Not to mention no one says in their ad that they do drop offs at the school/nursery I need.

Might be worth asking at the school, thy usually know who are the CM's at the school.

Metatron · 05/01/2009 18:31

I have yet to see a childminder there Shoshe. Plenty of nannies though.

Would nannyshare be a option?

Metatron · 05/01/2009 18:47

Maybe. Don't know too much about it tbh.

off to look into nanny share.

Some schools let parents place ads in the school newsletter, on notice boards etc. Could try that.
