hi, i am starting a nursing degree in sept and i will be working shifts pretty much from the get go. so i was wondering what would be my bst bet for childcare, at the minute dd (11 months) is in f/t nursery but am thinng this will change when i am t uni. do any CM do over nights or do i need to look for a nanny? if i get a nanny they would have to be OFSTED registered i think so i can claim the money back? not sure. are there any nurses out there that can help me? any advice welcomed.
thanks monique

I used to share a nanny with a family where the mum was doing a degree and needed an ofsted registered childcarer, affordability and the flexiblity in hours that you can get from a nanny (ie. some days before 8am). so I can recommend that, particularly as you only have 1 child.

Hello

I am a nurse and yes you will do shifts pretty much from the outset, you can ask for your whole placement shifts upfront as you need to arrange childcare.

It may be worth teaming up with another student nurse mum or 2 and seeing if you can help each other out with childcare.

or alternatively use a nursery during the day and then employ a nanny who does ad-hoc hours.

as a childrens nurse i actually do, do ad-hoc hours as a night nanny and have done for a doctor and a press office whose children attended day nursery/had day nannies but needed someone else to cover eve and nights.

There are some childminders that are registered for over night care, but from what I gather there arn't too many of them around. Ask your local Children's Information Service for details of those in your area that do provide this service, should be able to give you a list.
