Collection of two dds from nursery & school 3 afternoons a week

I know I am asking quite far in advance- I just want to know if this is a viable situation before approaching local child-minders.

Starting next September dd1 will be at school, dd2 will be in nursery (next door) in the afternoons for her free place (1245-1515).

Would you accept mindees for after school/after nursery for 3 afternoons a week (collecting them from either school/nursery until around 1730-1745? Is this enough hours for a childminder/ would we have to pay retainers etc?

They currently both attend nursery, but with no after school club this seems like our most viable option.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks

I would, but some CMs will charge a minimum number of hours per day or a higher rate for after school collections - I charge 75p more ph than my normal rate. The other thing cms consider is that each child under 5years takes up one of their places and we can only care for 3under 5's at ony one time, including our own children. Why not find a cm who is accredited and able to deliver nursery education in their own setting?I'm just starting my training to be able to do this in my setting. That way, the cm is being funded for the nursery place (via their local authority), but it's not costing you any extra? I would get a list of childminders from your local authority - or check childcarelink.gov.uk. It's never too early to arrange care. Some may charge you a retainer but it could be some cms are due to lose children to after-school or wrap-around care in September anyway and they may be happy enough to waive the retainer. Good luck!

Thank you underpaid- they both love nursery at the moment though.
DD1 would be 5 (just) as she has a September birthday. Am going to start looking now as you say, as we have particular requirements, We are in Stafford if you are interested?

Do the nursery they go to collect from the school and do the afterschool care?
A local nursery to my DD school has just started doing this as the school doesn't have on site afterschool care.

Afraid not- it is a surestart childrens centre. I may have to look at moving nurseries though

Am in Newcastle Merry, so a bit too much travel . Am sure you will get sorted. You could always go on the Netmums website and put your own advert on there on the childcare board. I advertise on there and parents looking for childcare do as well - I've had a few enquiries resulting from it.
