Should I be able to get a decent live in nanny for £300 per week net in London?

I have been really struggling. By decent I mean anyone with experience of being a nanny (rather than an au pair). I am going to start offering £350 but am pissed off that we can't attract good people for £300.

I think MV the fact that 2 posters have enquired about the job says it all really........300 a week net is over 20k a year plus all live in perks. Nearer 40k a year worth. There may be a few ex city workers jumping at it this year!

Keep in mind that the £300 per week is not what they live on. It is their spending cash after someone else pays all their bills. Not really a bad deal for a youngish single girl/boy.

excalty - so £300 in the hand a week would be fab, with no bills to pay for - for a newly qualifed/some experience nanny

i would love to have £300 deposible cash left each week

Athene and Blondes have got it right. Once you've factored in the fact that it's a live in job you do end up earning more in terms of disposable income than you would if you lived out but that's the price you pay for sacrificing some privacy. In the end I guess that's what puts most very experienced nannies off living in after a while - unless you move onto live-in positions with separate accomodation but even then your home etc is tied to your job - so it's not solely about the cash at the end of the day. I'd say a really experienced nanny will cost you more living in than they would living out in the end, which is why most live in jobs tend to be a) less well paid on the surface and b) filled by younger (and therefore less experienced) nannies.
