Hi, I have to go back to work in june/july, and need to start thinking about childcare arrangements! can anyone recommend a reliable CM or nursery where \ds will not simply be looked after but will learn and be stimulated too?i need to be sure my childcare arrangements won't fall through too so nursery may not be the best option as i dont want him catching bugs every other week either..We will be living in bethnal green and my work will be in Newham so somewhere in between the two would be ok thanks

There is a childminder, Marie Kahn, who has been very highly spoken of by another mum to me. We really liked her on interview for our dd1 but the vacancy fell through so we went elsewhere. Her ofsted report this year was outstanding - the only one in Tower Hamlets.
I prefer CMs for younger children, but nursery might be more reliable for you as they will be open more weeks of the year and won't have the risk of sickness that the childminder has. Your ds can pick up bugs at a childminder too.

When we lived in Hackney, DD1 went here from the age of 9 months to 2.5 years. She was blissfully happy, as were we, and she only left because we moved out of the area. The website's not great, but I looked at the staff pictures and noticed that there are several people still there from our time (we left nearly 3 years ago), which I think is a good sign, as staff turnover in nurseries can be very high. The manager, Katie, is lovely.

If you do go, please say hello to Katie and Lenka from Ella Havas .

I like the intimacy and the fact that consistency of carer is guaranteed so the child only has to get used to one other person. I also liked the fact that she always went out and about on day to day missions with the childminder as well as playgroups and child-oriented activities, I felt like she was learning about normal life. A trip on a bus/train/tube, a visit to the vets, going to the market and the shops are examples and, were all things I liked her doing.
It's horses for courses though. I know of other people who have been happy at the Montessori on the Park option, but you would need to enquire now about the waiting list for June as I was talking to a mum today who has her child (4 months) on the waiting list hoping to get a place by next May. The prices are eye watering though [ouch].

Bow Childcare in E3 has had some very good reviews too from mums I know. It is £30 ish per day. They didn't mention the educational side however.
