Don't know if anyone can help, but just needed to share me stresses.

Have been working as a part time nanny and due to my husband being let go, I gave in my notice to work as full time nanny. Had no problems registering with agencies etc starting to go on interviews, but have just found out that I am 7 weeks pregnant!!

Now feeling completely stressed.... no one is going to want to employ a pregnant nanny for just six/seven months or at all.

Don't know what to do, feel like this should be such a happy time and now just feel so sad, if husband and I don't find work don't know what we will do!! sorry for long rant x

Firstly congratulations, try to concentrate on the good points! You never know there might be some one wanting to cover their nannies holidays!? I did that pre-children and managed a few months with two families, don't give up just yet

MatNanPlusTINSEL · 10/12/2008 19:08

Certainly look at temp work, is your husbands industry hiring at all?

missymoo2411 · 10/12/2008 19:10

my friend was a nanny and she was able to work pregnant and the family let her take her child to work withb them as it worked for them u may be lucky or y not become a child minder ..

stressednanny1 · 10/12/2008 19:28

Thanks all, have started to apply for temp work and was think about being a childminder but we live in a two bed flat... wasn't sure if they would allow me to register.

My husband works in the property industry, so he just trying to find anything at all the mo.

Several people on MN have talked about nannies bringing their baby along to work and just charging a little less. Would that be possible? If so, you could start work now and then carry on with the same family after you've had the baby. Oh, and congratulations!

Bienchen · 10/12/2008 20:12

Sorry to hear your news.

Maybe you could look for a temporary position for a while.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/12/2008 20:16

congrats

agree there might be famillies who will take on a nanny pregnant

tech you dont have to tell them, but that is diecetful - you wont get smpo but there is other pay you are entitled to

maybe you can temp - have known several nannies do this while they were pregnant and then find perm work when baby is 3/4mths old

hollyivypoppy34 · 10/12/2008 20:39

congrats -although its not being qutie straight to mention it at 7 weeks I'd probably want to get 12 week hurdle out the way before I said anything.

agree with blondes (waves at her heroine) that temp work may be way to go plus you may feel differnetly re hours etc when bub arrives

re cm, think that its calculated on all sorts of space -have a friend with similar smallish house who was told she was ok

'Thanks all, have started to apply for temp work and was think about being a childminder but we live in a two bed flat... wasn't sure if they would allow me to register.'

I have a two bed flat - admittedly the second bedroom is a playroom for the kids solely, not a bedroom... OFSTED are more concerned with HOW you use your space.

JenniPenni · 10/12/2008 22:14

ps: CONGRATS on your pregnancy!!! x

congrats on your pregnancy! If I were you I would be confident in think that I could get a temp role - maybe cover a nanny on maternity, a parent who has unexpected need for nanny for short time etc. Don't stress yourself over it it's not worth it at all, just enjoy your time as a pregnant mummy & believe that things will come together in their own funny way.

Where in the country are you? Maybe one of us can help somehow? One word of caution I'd offer is that CMing is very different to nannying, there are A LOT of hours you'd need to put in on paperwork & it can take a long time for you to be registered with Ofsted. So whilst it might be a long term aim, you'll definitely need something in the short term.

Failing all else buy a lucky dip on the lottery and keep everything crossed . xx
