Can the CM's answer a question for me on behalf of a friend?

Is it "allowed" for a childminder to leave their mindees at a creche for a few hours during the day?

It is not thought to be 'Best Practise'

As I network childminder I couldn't

I'm not sure if the child would be covered by the childminders insurance while at the creche

And obviously they would need the parents permission

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/12/2008 21:37

would they be covered by the creche?

Depends some creches don't have insurance

Some are not registered with OFSTED either

callmeovercautious · 09/12/2008 21:42

Forget being "allowed" I don't know the rules however as a parent I would want to know it was going to happen in advance and have the right to stop it happening if I thought it was not up to standard.

For example there is a "creche" at our local gym which I would not leave a pet dog at, the one at our local Shopping centre however is very good.

Bit weird IMO but not sure about the rules.

Why would a CM use a creche?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/12/2008 21:45

would the creche have to provide their details re insurance / ofstead or would it be ofstead?

Reasons to use a creche (for a childminder) could be a training course

We have to attend so many - I either go on a saturday or shut down & go on a week day which means the parent loses out

Creche registration/insurance would be discussed with the creche manager I would assume

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/12/2008 21:47

It isn't my child, I'm asking for a friend.
I dont want to go into too much detail, friend was aware but it has become a little more regular, I suggested friend checked out where she stood re insurance etc etc, so I said I'd ask the powers that be!

Realistically it is hard to say

It could be an OFSTED registered, fully insured creche organised for childminder training

It could be a less than 2 hrs not insured, barely adequate creche

Or more likely something in between

BONKERZ · 09/12/2008 22:09

a group of childminders i know do attend a sure start group every monday afternoon which involves leaving the minded children in a creche run by qualified and crb checked nursery nurses who are also registered childminders. It does depend where this creche is and who its run by.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/12/2008 22:26

I'll get the friend to check it out. Where it is sounds to be a legit place to have one that is more likely to be "proper" iyswim.
If for any reason it is not covered by ofstead, does that mean that the employees are still crb checked?
