CM Club: Help with plan for a 5 year old?

I have yet to be trained on this EYFS rubbish stuff but I can't get my head around what I need in place for my just 5 year old mindee who starts with me in January.

He will only be with me the most 3 hours in the afternoon and it's only part time but could be one day or 5. How on earth do I "plan" for that?! And what do I plan?

I have in mind: Pick up from school, then off to pick up my dd from preschool. Go home, have snacks and drink, unwinding time. Then do a project if he is up to it, if not some appropriate telly/PC time as ok'd by his mum. How do you plan for this?? And link it blah blah?

If his 5th birthday was before 31st August this year, then you don't have to follow EYFS regarding planning, obs, assessments etc for him (hooray!) and OFsted haven't yet released any guidelines for over 5/ under 8 children - though I'm sure it will come in time! I would find out what his interests are and plan any activities around that. I have monthly themes - this month I'm doing the obvious Xmas, January is Winter, February is celebrations (Chinese New Yer, Valentines Day) - and I have very 'loose' plan around these themes but I leave it to the children to decide what they want to do. If he's been at school all day, you may find he doesn't want to do lively activities, but wants to chill - have a chat with parents about what they would be happy for you to do. Children's TV can be very educational these days - it's not all Power Rangers and Ben 10! - and you can expand on what he watched after the programme (Fun with Phonics - get a book out etc and encourage reading skills). If he does fall under EYFS, then remember activities are meant to be 'child led' now (so why do they ask for loads of plans!!), whatever he wants to do will link in in some way to the 6 areas of learnng and development. I bought loadsa stuff off a certain 'bidding' website - type iin EYFS and browse. I use a lot of the stuff in my setting. Sorry if I've waffled on a bit - hope it was some help.

No, I think it was after, just happened I think - best check on that I suppose!! Thanks for response, big help. I think I will just have to muddle through, it's the little ones that worry the most but I haven't found my one and only over 1year yet
