Childminding contract

Help everybody! I have just met with my chosen childminder to go through contract. She would like full payment when she is on holiday as well as when we are and also when the baby or herself are ill. Is this common practice?

Thanks for sharing your experience

I charge full payment when parent/child is on holiday or sick, and no fee when it's me.

Every CM will do things differently, and it's part of negotiating the contract and now is the time to speak up and thrash things out - if you aren't happy with her way of running her business, find a CM who doesn't charge

Every childminder I know charges 4 weeks full fees for their holiday entitlement. I, however, think it's a bit cheeky and only charge half for those 4 weeks. Otherwise I only charge full if my services are available and on bank holidays. So, if a child is off for any reason then it is full fees.
My CM friends say they have never had any complaints about 4 weeks at full pay.

Hi there, A childminder can charge pretty much what they want its up to parents to decide when choosing what they are prepared to pay for and what they are not.

I personally do not charge when i take leave or unwell but charge full if the child takes the day week off.

Parents on Tax credits get 1/3rd off when they give at least 2 weeks written notice of holiday leave.

Full fee paying parents only pay half when they take leave, (Again with 2 weeks written notice)

Maybe you can ask the Minder to take an extra £5 - £10 a week instead of charging when she takes leave. as If you have to fork out when shes away for another minder you are double out of pocket, which is not really in my opinon very fair.

I don't charge when I take summer holiday, and charge half at Christmas and Bank Holidays, as all my Parents are off at the same time, (we are in a Military setting) so they don't need to pay for another CM in that time.

I charge half for the child's 4 weeks holiday a year, not including Christmas and B/HBs, with 4 weeks notice

I charge full for child sickness, and none for my sickness.

As the others have said, it is up to you to decided if you want to pay it or find a CM that doesn't charge.

I charge half for my holidays, half for mindee hoildays. Full fee for BH's, No fee for my sickness, full fee for mindee sickness.

FWIW, NCMA do suggest we charge full for 4 weeks holiday.

I charge when I'm available and do not charge when I am not.
