New CM Q...car seats...

AT the moment I only have a 4 year old boy who has a booster seat that I bought.

I've got a mum coming tomorrow to see about minding her 3 yr old and 1 yr old.

I will need to buy new car seats for them both if they start with me, but what if I bought the seats and a month later she decided she didn't want my services anymore? I'd have spent out a considerable amount of money and wondered what you all did?

Obviously this is all worst case scenario but my H just asked the question?

Hope this post makes sense!!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Erm....hard luck, I'm afraid

Sometimes it's rotten being a childminder

looneytune · 20/11/2008 21:17

As Katy said but it wouldn't be a waste as you'd have them for next mindee that came along

Your post makes perfect sense!

There is no harm in asking if she can provide the car seats at the very least as a temporary measure. Explain your situation to her. I have had prospective parents ask me if they need me to use their car seats, though!

It just so happens for reason too dull to mention, that I have as many as i need.

It may be an idea to buy one if a bargain comes along! Never know when it could come in handy seeing that things in childminding change so quickly.

Good luck!

MummaBear · 20/11/2008 21:18

Well you will at least have them for others that decide to use your services!!

AbbaFan · 20/11/2008 21:33

I would buy the seats. If your in it for the long haul, it will not be a waste of money.

Do you know many other cm's? Maybe one has a seat or two that they are not using at the moment that you could borrow.

Sorry all posted this then was so tired went to bed.
Ok thanks for your help. I think come January there will be some bargains about so will 'stock up' then!
Thanks again! Missy x

be careful if using a parents own seat, if you dont fit it properly and something happens your insurance may not pay out because you were using a 'second hand' seat or a seat which didnt fit your car. that and your guilt would be terrible if you used a seat which you find out didnt fit properly.

cmx2 - Do insurance really not pay out if using a 2nd hand seat?? My friend is giving me one of her seats which I know for a fact hasn't been in any accidents & is in good nick. Would that be the car insurance or public liability insurance people??
