HELP!?! Best double + buggy board for childminding? Nipper or JANE?

GiveMeChocolateNOW · 13/11/2008 13:54

Advice needed please! New to CM, need a double buggy asap as new mindee is starting soon.

I've done loads of research and have narrowed it down to a nipper 360 + kiddiboard or Jane + buggy board. I've ruled out P+T as apparently it's no good with a buggyboard.

Both mindee and DD2 are refuse daytime sleep in cot, prefering to sleep in buggy, so which is best for two sleeping children (2yrs + 9 months)

Our door is quite narrow and the school playground is always packed with parents, so Jane is more practical for that.

Can I use a Jane with buggy board or do I need to buy a special one?

Also, a brand new Jane is out of the question as too £££ DH says that if you buy second hand (ebay)you can't offset against tax?

Afraid that I don't know either buggy, but I use the mothercare hoxton tandem. Can get 2 little ones sleeping in it (back fully reclines, and front partially reclines, but enough for my ds whos 1 to sleep comfortable in it!). You can also put a buggy board on it, but putting a buggy board on any tandem makes them damn heavy to push!!

Hope this helps a little

Booh · 13/11/2008 14:13

I loved my nipper, I used it every day for four years, most of them with a buggy board! But it has now gone to buggy heaven.

Its is a really fab prame, it almost lies totally flat, I easily had two large 2 year olds asleep in it at the same time. Lots of storage space for bags etc (I could go out for the whole day and take picics etc for 6 children) easy to push, and most of all very light to lift etc.

I now have a Phil and ted as I don't need a double all the time. And yes you are right, you can't put a buggy board on it.

GiveMeChocolateNOW · 13/11/2008 14:24

I did look at the Hoxton, but it looks v squashy or is it just v clever design?

I lurve the idea of a nipper for picnics, walking, etc, I love that it's side to side but it is so huge, I think I might end up regretting it if I do.

Sorry don't know about putting a buggy board on the back. Have you looked at both websites for information?

Booh · 13/11/2008 18:17

The nipper goes through every door that I have come across! and I know that it is lighter than the jane.

What car do you have? Which one will fit in the boot?

chloemegjess · 13/11/2008 18:21

I have heard very good things about the nipper.

Don't know anything about Jane.

I have a mothercare Phenix Tandem and I really like it. No idea about the buggy board, but would love to know if anybody has done it! And I will soon have 2 under 2s of my own and would like a full time mindee

mumsanutter · 13/11/2008 18:28

Oh god, I'm having a mum day no t the hoxton (i have one similar to this that I am trying to sell! - the front seat on the hoxton doesn't recline at all, the back seat does but as you said is quite squashy!). I meant the mothercare phonix (? spelling), its quite big but really nice to manovear etc.

Sorry again

chloemegjess · 13/11/2008 18:36

The Phonix isn't that big though. It looks big when it is opened but I have a TINY boot (ford Galaxy) and can't fit most doubles in there. The Phonix fits in with a single as well!

GiveMeChocolateNOW · 13/11/2008 18:37

I've just checked out the Lascal website, and I can use my Maxi Buggyboard with a Jane.

If I get a nipper, I'll need to buy a kiddyboard (but can sell current one on ebay so cost will balance).

BOOH, can you get your nipper through smallish doorways by going in at an angle? It would be useful if I could move it about in the house, as both little ones will be using it for sleeping.

Booh · 13/11/2008 18:42

Yes you can get it through, but you need the one with the swivel front wheel!

Also, it is so easy to old up and down, unlike the phil and ted

nannyL · 13/11/2008 18:50

a freind at music had twins and 18 months later another baby

she got on really well with her jane power track twin + buggy board

GiveMeChocolateNOW · 13/11/2008 19:04

Both seem good solutions, feeling relieved as it has taken sooo long to decide on anything that's even vaguely suitable.

Now I just need to decide on whether I want a true double (nipper) or tandem (Jane)!

DH is due home soon, so will bore him with another evening of wittering on about double buggies!

Givemechocolate

I am newly registered and am planning on using a phil and teds with a buggy board, whats up with them?

AccidentalMum · 13/11/2008 19:42

Jane have their own buggy boards which are very very good....so manouverable (sp?). BUT, backseat cannot recline very far when you have a child standing on the board. Phil and Teds OK with board when in NB/ Toddler mode but not two toddler mode. KiddyBoard could work very well with the nipper as could be pushed to one side toallow full recline on one seat. This would be my choice.

SillyMillysMummy · 13/11/2008 19:47

accidentalmum, whats the issue with 2 toddler mode? is it weight, or pushability? or does it just not work lol

TheOtherMaryPoppinsFleckles · 13/11/2008 19:52

SMM - there simply isn't the room for it on the back when the toddler seat is also on the back. Even with extenders.

OP - Nipper is a dream but I found it too wide for my front door by just an inch or so but couldn't maneouvre it in at all look up the specs for how wide it is and measure your doorway remembering to measure it to your fully opened door and not frame to frame.

cmx2 · 13/11/2008 20:03

when in 2 toddler mode (with the toddler seat at the bottom) the buggy boards wont fit.

i have the nipper 360 and it does look big but it really not and it is the easiest buggy to push even with 2 big toddlers i can push it 1 handed so i can hold another child's hand.

it does lye flat for sleeping lo's. the only other thing i would say is invest in the extra shopping basket. it comes with 2 bags/net/basket things on the back of each seat but if you pay out for the extra basket it gives you so much more storage and you can still use the bags. it doesnt get in the way it just gives lots of extra space. i hope yswim lol

GiveMeChocolateNOW · 13/11/2008 20:19

Good point TOMP

Our front door = 75 cm wide, nipper = 77cm wide, will I get it in at an angle?

AccidentalMum · 13/11/2008 20:23

There is another thread on that very subject and the consencus was no, you won't. Jane sounds like a good bet TBH.

chloemegjess · 13/11/2008 22:12

We can't get a side by side through our door which is why we went for the tandem as I will soon have a newborn and will want to be able to leave baby asleep and wheel it into the house.

SillyMillysMummy · 14/11/2008 08:27

thanks girls, I have a universal model fitted (thanks to dh) and maybe that is bigger, seems to be enough room, having said that i havent tested it yet.

Orangutan · 14/11/2008 12:51

Oh why did I read this post!!! Had my heart set on the P&T double buggy & was hoping to pick one up at an NCT NN sale tomorrow, now I'm confused

Orangutan · 14/11/2008 14:23

SillyMillysMummy, UNIVERSAL model fitted to what? Thought you had a P&T? Still confused on which one to get

GiveMeChocolateNOW · 14/11/2008 18:07

Finally decided...I am inlove with the nipper but can't risk it not fitting through the front door and will have to attach a massive siren in order to get through the school playground!!! So, head over heart, I'm going for a Jane powertwin. Thanks for all the great advice.
