A mindee has just arrived, he is full of cold, green vile snot coming from his nose, he has a raging temp (I didn't notice this when he was dropped off but he does just run in and go and go and sit with the toys)

He is clingy, lloks tired, so I guess didn't have a good nights sleep and has refused b'fast. He is sitting on me as I type this looking awful.

I KNOw that the parents have to work, but how on earth can I care for him, plus two other pre schoolers and do the school run etc

Some one give me a kick up the bum as I know what I have to do

Pick up the phone and ring his mum, honestly he needs a day on the sofa being cuddled and given one to one, you can't do that and it's also not fair on your other mindees if you do attempt to do it. Poor little love.

elastamum · 13/11/2008 08:19

Phone them up and tell them to come and get him. Its not fair on you or the other kids to do this. I have an ill child at home and I wouldnt dream of dropping him at school!

SammyK · 13/11/2008 09:17

Hope you have phone them booh.

Poor little mite needs his mum and his own sofa/bed to snuggle on in peace.

Booh · 13/11/2008 09:25

Have you rang yet?

Booh · 13/11/2008 12:07

Nope, child was awake for about 45mins and now asleep again.

I think I will say I can't have him tomorrow

Its so hard as its also a friends child

Do you not think you should even let the mum know how unwell he is? I thik I would want to know if mine was totally unlike himself - even if you ar happy to keep him.

Booh · 13/11/2008 12:15

Mum knows, and is getting regular updates.

This isn't going to turn into a CM bashing again is it?

not being a cm where do you draw the limit of saying no to a sick/ill child

obv S&D is a no go, and if has a high temp, but for colds for example

you dont want to give cold to other mindess but on the other hand colds are common and most children get them each winter

you have kept mum informed, and if you are happy to have him today - prob only 5hrs to go then leave him,

maybe text your friend/mum and say you think child would be better off at home tomorrow and then she can make alturnitive child care arrangements/have day off work

Shoshe · 13/11/2008 13:19

I draw the line when they are not well enough to go to normal activities, as its not fair on the other children to miss out because a child is ill.

1.20 mindees sleeping, webcam trained at cots, breathing monitor on.

SammyK · 13/11/2008 18:53

I draw the line at anything more than a cold/cough.

Fever - stay home
D and or V - stay home
Will want to sleep all day - stay home

If a child comes to me and is ill I am straight on the phone to get them picked back up. It's not fair on me, them or the other kids.

Last time a child was sent in ill,I ended up having two days off unpaid, and several anoyed parents due to one's incosiderate behaviour.
