Question about volume of drink (squash for mindee obviously!)

My mindee seems to drink ever such alot.

Example - today at breakfast (8.15) she had a full carton of apple juice and then by 9.30 am asks for another drink and downs 1/2 a pint of squash in one go. I have dropped her off at playgroup now so have avoided the endless trips to the toilet.

I know that if she had stayed here she would probably ask for another drink within the hour and do the same again. Her mum has said she drinks alot but is it me or is this loads?? I reckon in a day with me between 9 and 3 she probably drinks about 2 pints of liquids (and that's with me only giving her half a cup at a time to try and slow her down a bit).

does seem a lot

maybe check that she isnt diabetic

I give milk at breakfast then a cup of diluted apple juice/ribena and then offer water

try offering her water instead of juice (if mum agrees)

I am concerned that she may be diabetic - does anyone know if she would have any other signs?

She refuses to drink water - her mum gives her squash at home and has told me its OK so I am just carrying on but I could try offering water to see if it puts her off a bit.

I do try and give her half a cup at a time just because she drinks the whole lot in one go. I also presume she wees alot because of the drinking.

i would go to water

If it's liquid she needs/wants she will drink it

& if it's the sugar she wants she won't

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2008 12:23

if she is thirsty she wont refuse water

she is obv used to squash hence why she says no

think thirst and blurred vison are the 2 most common signs

I think I'll have a word with her Mum and see if she's OK with me giving her loads to drink. If so I suppose I will just carry on - I don't want her to get upset because I don't give her enough to drink and then go home and tell her mum.

She has been having a relapse in her potty training recently (which is strange) so her Mum is saying she may take her to the doctor to see if she has a water infection - I could tactfully suggest she mentions it to the doctor while she's there.

My lot regularly down half a pint a hour, They have squash in the first instance then water, then squash (very diluted) a lot of my mindees over the years have.

I think a lot of the time it is a comfort thing, especially for ex dummy and thumbsuckers.

what age is she?

My own children drink alot and agree give water, if she is thirtsy then she will drink it, if not it may help her not drink so much in one go

ofsted will pick you up on squash even with parent permission!

but if worried then yes, suggest to mum about talking to the doctor
