Will only be registered as CM in December after First Aid course (new OFSTED rules) but already have a mindee to start end of Jan. How often between now and then should I be seeing her to get used to eachother etc. etc. & when should I start charging?

hm..i would double check this re first aid..im doing LOTS of EYFS courses at min and have NOT been told this???

anyway, how old is she/he?, could she come for a couple of hours each week on a day that she/he would be in jan?, then you can do things/groups etc that she/he will look forward to when she comes properly?

I'm nearly finished registering and the first aid thing is true - ofsted won't issue the certificate until you have finished your first aid. I'm just waiting on the CRBs but have a little boy ready to start. He and his mum are coming round for an afternoon every week to get familiar with me and the house - have been for three weeks so far and will do until I'm registered I guess. IMO two or three vists would probably be enough though, especially if the child has been to a minder before and so is used to being with somebody other than mum. The plan then is to do contracts and start charging as soon as the certificate come through, as can't before - this time is the settling in period as well, which is usually free I believe? HTH x

Yes the First Aid thing is true. You now have to have completed it BEFORE they will issue the registration certificate.

I would say that every week between now and then is a bit excessive unless mindee or mum is going to find it particularly hard to settle. Personally I have found that the ones that have settled best are the ones who have had less settling in as they soon just fit into our routine! Most settling in I have ever had to do is 2 2 hour sessions - I each week before mindee started.

hmm...didnt know that!..did you know that you could reg your dp as an assistant and they wouldnt need ANY training!??..AND you CAN leave the children with dp/dh/dw for 'short periods of time' which includes school runs etc!..with NO training not EVEN first aid!..thats why i was unsure of op..had this confirmed last tues!!!...ofsted do not require ANY training for assistant, however my local council 'would like' them to do a first aid course!...how strange the way they set their rules isnt it!
