Should I buy pre-made policies for Childminding?

I am interested in becoming a childminder and have seen lots of policies through third-party websites and eBay, that sort of thing that include 'starter' packs. These usually have policies in like Allergy info, Medical release, consent forms, payment receipts, etc.

Is it worth buying something like this and if so, how much would you pay for it? Or is it easier to do it all yourself? I worry that I would miss something, wouldn't know the proper way to do it, or would leave something out!! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ask nicely here and someone will send you some

Or look on the Bromley childminding site & you can download them for free

Mine are a bit squiffy (as I work in a setting) but pop into the staff room (or as I say Bromley is great)

yes download them for free or copy them from others, but don't pay for them !

I have made most of mine up myself, but also borrowed from other minders. Do you know any other cms, are you part of a group or network that could share with you ? MOst are just common sense and knowing how to word things properly. And IMO you can go overboard and have too many policies, so don't go policy mad !

I second BCMA (bromley) they are fantastic (and free).
They also have lots of great EYFS stuff, planning sheets and topic ideas etc.

Having just reread your OP, I am assuming you are look to be registered with Ofsted?? Ilegal not to.

Your local childrens or family information service should have lots of advice on this.

Hi! I'm a newly registered CM and found Bromley website fantastic. I copied adapted some of their policies. Agree that Mnetters are very helpful too

PeaceNLove · 25/11/2008 16:31

I already had loads written up, but thought with the new EYFS in place id buy off a lady on ebay who claimed she got OUTSTANDING in her last inspetion and so thought id go with what she had to adapt mine.
Worst £11 i spent this Year...

You can really get everything you need online for free. lol..

Good Luck with everything.

HSMM · 26/11/2008 08:28

NCMA also have free policies to download

crace · 26/11/2008 16:28

Do policies change very much under eyfs?

NanaManchester · 30/11/2008 17:23

There are lots of downloads available on various sites, but if you want a pack that has all the policies and procedures you need, in the order that they appear in the EYFS Statutory Framework, then go to www.eyfs-in-practice.com This stuff has been written specifically for EYFS, by an Outstanding childminder. You can buy the whole presentation pack, with dividers etc, or just the policies and procedures.
