Ok I have Ofsted coming, and am working to an NVQ deadline. NVQ is on an extension and urgently needs finishing so I cannot put it off.

Should be done friday, and then planned on renewing all my papework and policies!

So I need . .

planning

policies

SEF

risk assessments

what else?

Observations and evidence/examples of the childrens' work

Certificates - First Aid/insurances

Letters of commendation from your parents

HTH

If I think of any more I shall put them on here

Shoshe · 05/11/2008 13:27

SEF SEF SEF, they are really hot on it here.

Will report back on anything else after my Inspection, which now will be either tomorrow or Friday

SammyK · 05/11/2008 13:37

I am really feeling overwhelmed now.

I have so much to do and so little time and ds is having 'a day'. Feel like hiding under my bed!

Have started filling SEF in, will have to finsh it later when I finish work.

I didnt finish mine Sam, I submitted it half done as it takes ages to do, but thought that at least I was showing willing.

looneytune · 05/11/2008 13:57

complaints file

NumberFour · 05/11/2008 13:59

compliments file
visitors book
evidence of fire drills

Shoshe · 05/11/2008 14:12

I also did a I.C.E drill

Phoned all the parents to inform them of a emergency and that they were required to collect children immediately (I had warned them all before hand and that no they didn't really need to pick them up).

I then got them to sign that I had phoned them and got through to them all.

It was quite good as one was out of reach, so I had to phone her alternative contact, so it showed that it works all round.

NumberFour · 05/11/2008 16:17

Good idea, Shoshe. er.... ICE? what does that stand for?

Shoshe · 05/11/2008 16:27

In Case of Emergency = I.C.E

NumberFour · 05/11/2008 16:30

Aha!
But of course! thanks

SammyK · 05/11/2008 17:50

Well thanks to the lovely shoshe I have now updated my policies and procedures.

I have checked I have all my permission slips.

As for the SEF - started doing it and lost the will to live!

Best go do me and DS some tea then get back on with it.

Ive just had my inspection a couple of weeks ago and the SEF gave me lots of browniew points (even though its a complete nightmare and repeats itself). Only problem I had was not washing hands enough - but we live a very outdoor life and would have no skin left if we washed our hands every time wwe came indoors. Don't forget your munlticultural 'items'.

NumberFour · 05/11/2008 18:05

this washing hands after every blinking thing you do gets ridiculous! IMO...

sparklylucy · 05/11/2008 18:09

Ah number 4 but they did pick up guinea pig poo and then go and eat lunch so i could be considered as in the wrong ....

NumberFour · 05/11/2008 18:24

WAh ha ha ha ha

oh, yip, maybe so!

How did you do? Everything okay?

(apologies for mini - hi-jack!)

sparklylucy · 05/11/2008 19:17

I got a good overall but funnily enough only a satisfactory in the health bit!!! Overall it was fine - the inspector was clearly only just getting to grips with the system herself, which is always helpful i think.

Scarfmaker · 05/11/2008 20:10

Attendance register

CRB checks in place

NumberFour · 05/11/2008 20:27

Sparklylucy, well done to you! That's brilliant!

My first (and so far only inspection) gave me satisfactory. I had only been going for 3 months - like most at that stage. Good is Great!

Good point about the First Aid Certificate, Scarfmaker. A friend of mine realised after the inspector called that her FAid cert was out of date. She called the inspector and explained that she had been on maternity leave so was give a few weeks to get it updated! Lucky her.

Shoshe · 05/11/2008 20:44

I got Good in all categories in my November 2001 Ofsted (which was my first done under Ofsted, I was done yearly by the Council Under 8 Officer before that.

A Good in all categories including my Accredited part in December 2005 so I really really want a Outstanding to go out with a BANG!

PinkChick · 05/11/2008 20:45

Hiya Chick, i was at workshop last night and met lots of cm's whove had their inspection!..theyre BIG on risk assesments, ACTUAL hours of attnedance registers (so you can write when theyre booked to come, but they want to see the actual hours they came now?..even if you just get a diary and START doing this!), SEF DOES NOT HAVE TO BE COMPLETED..confirmed last night, just have it started and say you are working on it, you can update it ANY time throughout the year!, lots of Obs and photo evidence, keep a one of the mindees diarys to show examples of what you say/inform/note down obs for parents and allow them to respond (just write x did this today..has he done that before? or, "do you have any probs if i blah blah"?...references/complaint/compliments file, first aid kit up to date and stocked/ food in fridge stored correctly (uncooked bottom and separate) and one of the most important things..IGNORE theyre there and concentrate on the children...ive heard of more than one cm who ignored children to chat to inspector (one even shoved dummy in child mouth to shush them!!!)..needles to say they were marked down and put on regular visit!

Good LUck.

PinkChick · 05/11/2008 20:46

oh and have your policies/consent forms/complaints folders, registers..everything like this to hand(contracts/child records etc) so they can get in and out and done, then you dont have to go running off!

Shoshe · 05/11/2008 20:55

PC, I have a box with everything in it, I intend to dump it in the Inspectors lap, and then get on with my morning

I have a file by my front do, which has weekly attendance in in, parents sign their children in and out, with 8.40 written for schoolies going out in the morning, which is the time the school gates open and a teacher is on the gate, and 3.00 which is the time I sign them back in, as that is when school officially ends.

I started it on 1st January, and although I have occasionally had to remind 1 father, on the whole parents just sign in, ( I do put a reminder in my quarterly newsletter.especially new parents as they have never known any different.
I put a clock above it, so its easy to fill in.

SammyK · 05/11/2008 21:03

Well I still have not had my tea.

STill not finished CM stuff (almost done)

and still have NVQ to do!!

Have just ordered takeaway.

Thanks for all these messages, had forgot about first aid box so will have a check of the dates on everything. I got good in all areas last time so will be disappointed if don't get the same I think.

OP posts:
PinkChick · 06/11/2008 09:28

oh and you CAN have plasters in it AS LONG as you have a consent form from each family saying they do/dont authorise you sue them..

Shoshe, the famous cm's box! LOL..thats one of the things that was mentioned on tuesday, apparently as theyre SO paperwork and organisation orientated, theyre actually marking DOWn @some@ cm's for this at minute!..but as long as you know WHERE everything is in the box(ie not all shoved in in no order) i dont see it being a prob

SammyK · 06/11/2008 21:49

In case anyone else is waiting for ofsted, I have started tackling my SEF form by pasting it into word, and adding to each area gradually. It's also really helped to look at newly published inspection reports online to get an idea of what they want to see.

I have loads more to do on it but have printed it out as it is, so inspector can see I am working my way through it.
