I have two school aged children who currently attend Before and afterschool club at their school during term-time. It starts at 8am and then they go on an evening- its open until 6pm. This is £10.50 a day in total for both of them.

Im in my third year of my nursing degree and currently on a placement which involves doing long days- ie starting at 7am. Dp has recently been promoted at work and as such needs to leave the house for 7am in the morning.
This is now creating HUGE probs as school club doesnt start until 8am.

Would a childminder take my children just in the mornings and take them to school for normal time? I intend to keep them in the afterschool club (they LOVE it there).
Im unsure of prices or even how to find a local childminder. any help would be great.

I'm sure you could find someone to do this, although some childminders may not want to start until 8am, or charge more for the 7-8 hour. I pay £3.50 per hour, per child for my childminder so it would probably be more than you have been used to paying. Check www.childcarelink.gov.uk and put in your postcode to find local childminders. You can check which ones already do drop offs at your kids school, but I'd also call ones who don't mention any school in case they'd be prepared to do it.

Safest way to find a CM is to ring your local Childrens/Families Info Services. That way you know they are registered. I would have no problems doing only mornings but as BS said it would probably be more expensive than you're used to. Where are you?

Check out the thread for 'childminders with no mindees'. One of us might be in your area

There are plenty of childminders who do this

I'm thinking about doing my nursing next year and I'm worried about juggling the childcare. How have you found it? Has Uni and Placements been ok to fit in with kids? (other than this final year)
