i have an enquiry to work 5.30pm till 12pm or 2am 3 days a week. I already work from 7.30am till 6.30pm in the day, do you think i will be tsking on too much if i say yes? also not sure about getting up at 2am for a handover then getting up for the day at 6.30am! How much would you charge for these kind of hours?

You need to check with OFSTED - I think this would count as overnight care tbh

BoysAreLikeZombies · 24/10/2008 13:59

If OFSTED say yes then I would only consider if I could have the child all night - it's def not in the child's best interest to be woken in the middle of the night to go home.

Agree with balz. If you are willing to do this it has to be all night - with mum being charged til 6.30am. It is not good for you or the child to have a 2am handover.

I can't imagine she would find anyone willing to do that!

I'm not a childminder but who on earth would want to collect a child at midnight or 2am?

Agree it would be bad news for both of you.

If you have daytime mindees and/or your own kids then it sounds like you'd be taking on way too much. You need sleep and time off too, particularly if your minding hours are already 11 hours a day.

TheOtherMaryPumpkins · 24/10/2008 18:49

I've recently been working a full day from 7.30/8am til gone 10pm, weekdays AND weekends, and I really really don't recommend it. I am burnt out and had to get rid of the evening/weekend one.

leonifay · 25/10/2008 10:01

i think that would be crazy, and agree with balz that its not in the childs best intrests. i would do it only if i had the child till 6.30am, so it would fit in with my schedule, and make the child happy, and lets not forget the school teachers who will have to deal with the tired grouchy child the next day. i would charge double per hour, after all the mother is being paid double time to work the shift.

Working till midnight for a few days is fair enough - tiring when working during the day but doable for a few days

but till 2am and waking up/moving child seems strange - or you do mean sleep at her house and then leave 2am when mum comes home?

agree with others that you need to decide with mum what hours she wants and if till 2am then she needs to pay you for the wholenight

if I work over night, i charge £10 bs till midnight and then £30 sleepover rate
