is it "first aid at work" the one that lasts three years?

not too difficult, can be intense if you've never done it before.

no homework but a practical assessment on the last day.

its just a 2 day peadiatric course

very easy and usually no test at the end

poppymay · 03/10/2008 19:48

I've just done mine and very easy going class! Our 'test' was to demonstrate the recovery position and do cpr. No note taking.

Nothing to worry about

Last course I did (St Johns Early Years First Aid) back in Jan/Feb, we had a small worksheet to take home the first day - takes all of 5 minutes to complete. Then on second day there was buddy-assessment for practicals - with tutor keeping tabs on everyone.
It's vastly different to a first aid course (Appointed Person course) I did back in the early 90's, where for one it was a 30 or more hour course with accident simulation (fake blood and all), plus possibly a written exam - though my memory isn't clear on that last point.

So don't panic/worry about your 2 day course, it will be quite a relaxed affair. There tends to be a lot of participation, so wear suitable clothing - you will be laying on the floor quite a bit I suspect.

Usually quite a laugh! Just make sure you wear comfortable clothes as you will be getting on the floor a lot!
Some of it can be a bit upsetting for some people who have experienced real emergencies as it brings back memories.
But the skills these days are much easier to remember than a few years ago.
Have fun!

You are right about it bringing back memories Ripeberry, when i did my paediatric first aid there was some right old batty woman on there who still thought you had to put butter on burns!

As 6 months previously i had suffered 2nd degree burns to nearly all my left arm when DH slipped on one of DDs plastic toys and spilt a large bowl of scalding soup over me as he went to carry it to the table i knew EXACTLY how burns should be treated and found myself getting very distressed trying to correct her and getting across how importent it was to follow the correct procedure - then felt a right prat for realising i was about to start crying over it !!!

thanks for reassurance everyone i'm just a bit shy with strangers and didn't want to make a fool of myself!!! I think i might enjoy this one after all
