I am currently off work as I had an emergency c section at the start of Sept. Instead of taking off the 2 weeks I was going to I am now taking extra time off from my mindees. I therefore have not been working since the EYFS came into play and I was just wondering how it is all going? Also my question is after reading through the pack neither myself or my full time mindee family agrees with me having to do all the observations etc the family actually withdrew their child from nursery as didn't want all that at such an early age. Therefore if I don't do EYFS and OFSTED come to inspect what is the worse that can happen? Obviously I know I will not get another Outstanding but I am not expecting that anyway. Will they void my registration and make me unable to work anymore or will they just give me a lowet inspection grade? TBH I would rather have a lower grade than have to bend over bakwards for OFSTED.

My wife is in the process of applying for exemption, but hasn't got very far yet. The first step is to contact the local authority and inform them of your intention. Unfortunately, the Ofsted guidance doesn't tell you exactly who in the local authority to contact so we had to guess. The first letter we wrote was to the Childcare Strategy Manager whose department looks after early years education. 3 weeks later and with no reply we wrote to the Strategic Director of Children's Services. That was 2 weeks ago and if we haven't had a reply by next week, we'll be writing to the leader of the council. If we get no reply from that person we'll have to start writing to councillors.

Consequently, we haven't got anywhere near balloting the parents, contacting the QCA or Ed Balls. I can see it being a very long road.

Thanks Arfa that is exactly what I thought too, therefore that is why I was wondering whether or not to just not bother following the EYFS and see what happens at my next inspection (due 2010) To be honest if all they are going to do is tell me to start using it and give me a satisfactory or an inadequate is it really so bad?

Don't know if this is any help but in amongs all the permission forms I printed off from the ncma website there is one that the parents have to sign to allow you to do observations, one of my mums didn't want these done therefore didn't sign the permission slip, had my Ofsted inspection today and she was fine with it said if they don't want you to do them not alot you can do so if keep the permission slip with all your others but put a strick through it that's what I did and I still got a good (I am doing obs for my other mindees) was already warned that ofsted are not awarding many outstandings now cos of the EYFS all being new to them aswell but good luck glad mines over till 2011 I must admit x
