How likely is it that I will be able to find a childminder who can start work at 6.30am?

That's it really. Just pondering my current work situation and what will happen when DC is born. Really, I can take 6 mths Mat Leave, but then need to go back to work because DP will be heading off to finish his last year at University so will be away 5 days a week, term time.

Which is when I am working.

Could take DC back for lunch at about 10am, but then would have to put them back at half one or so and leave them until half 6.

It sounds like a long time for DC to be away as it is, now I'm wondering if I'd be able to find anyone who could work so early and how much extra it would cost...

I used to start at 6.45am and would of at 6.30 if needed. Just ignore any listings which show hours that are later start and phone and ask, you never know. My core hours ar 8-6 but I was asked one day and said yes so it's always best to ask them.

I would ask around. Some people are early birds, so they may not mind.

I'd do those hours as I'm up at that time. However outside of my core hours (8am-6pm) I would charge double time (£7 an hour instead of £3.50). HTH

Im a childminder and start at 6.45 some days ...has never bothered me. I don't charge extra for early starts.

It would be the pick up at 10 and drop off at 1.20 that would get me...... as we are always out either in the morning or in the afternoon so you would end up dropping off and picking up in the middle of music or half way through art!!! lol

I have done this before, many cms are happy to provide child care for shift workers, you just need to ring around, don't be afriad to ask.

yep agree, I am 7:30-6 but very often have worked at 6:30 to fit in with parents requirements. I too charge double for this, well I'm £2 per 1/4 before 7.30!,
