Do you get the feeling that they care way more about their clients than their employees?

They just let clients cancel with hardly any notice and you get nothing.

It really annoy's me .

Anyone else fed up with working for them?

You have given me an idea though about asking for recommendations on here. We haven't been there very long so I don't know many people I could ask.

Yes, you could also post adverts on gumtree for free or nannyjob or findababysitter all websites.

I really begrudge going to Sitters jobs as the pay is down right insulting.
However I get far more work than I would privately. Another downside is the jobs mainly seem to start at around 6.30/7pm which seems ridiculous as most CMs I know don't finish until 6.30/7. Plus my partner doesn't get home until 7.30 (I have a DS). I can only accept weekend work providing my partner isn't out. Seems unfair if the more work you accept the more you get offered as it's not our fault if the jobs start at stupid times!

Pay should be much more as, as far as I'm concerned, it's over time! - anti-social hours too. I charge £9 per hour if private!

FruitynNutty · 05/09/2008 16:51

Plus trying to stay awake past 9 o'clock is a HUGE job in itself!

The circle goes round further, though. I use Sitters to cover when I have to go to meetings. Then so often, my clients want to cancel or rearrange at the last minute so I don't get paid but I end up paying the sitter rather than cancelling. Of course the evening jobs start at 6:30 or 7 because if you're lucky enough to be going to a concert or the theatre or (great excitement) a PSA meeting, then it's going to start at 7:30pm and that's when you need to leave.

FruitynNutty · 05/09/2008 17:05

If I could transport myself to the jobs in 5 seconds flat then they would be ideal times Most private jobs I go to never start before 7.30.

Janni - I'm a nanny who is looking for evening/weekend babysitting work, and am not very far from EC1 (15 mins by bus from Old Street or Liverpool Street for example). If you want to talk to me about babysitting at all my email is [email protected]

Janni · 05/09/2008 21:17

Thankyou, LondBabysitter. I will email you tomorrow x

Janni · 06/09/2008 18:09

I have emailed you, LondonBabysitter.

lindseyfox · 06/09/2008 20:21

I hope i have not stepped over the line but have started a babysitter thread so people can add their details as a babysitter and then those who need sitters can contact them direct. if this is not allowed huge huge apologises and hope someone deletes it for me but thought it would be soooooo useful

Janni · 06/09/2008 20:34

It's a great idea, lindseyfox

lindseyfox · 06/09/2008 20:45

LondonBabysitter · 06/09/2008 21:05

Okey dokey don't want to wind you all up too much but I am a sitters client who's child is always in bed when Sitter arrives & has only woken up on one accasion and went straight into Mum's bed. I always return on or before time, and I am never more than 15 minutes by cab away from the house. I have a small friendly dog, but no sky tv and my flat is not flashy, there is always tea & coffee & biccis. Sitters have let me down once before, and I have cancelled with about 6 hours notice because I was not feeling well.
I am paying for someone to sit in my house, and act responsibly if anything happens until I get there.
Sorry how hard is that?

imananny · 07/09/2008 13:34

glucose - its not hard to do what you are saying, course bs is easy, the child/ren are normally asleep, and we sit on our bum, watching tv and eating biccies( if any)

you sound a perfect cilent

its more to do with the way that sitters runs their agency, rather than the cilents they have iyswim - being let down/cancelling is annoying, and thats why i have a cancellation/minium fee of 4hrs@ £10ph

I do think after working maybe a 12hr day that to then go and bs for £5.88 etc isnt worth my while, hence why i wont use them
