Childminders Club: Opinions on the constant recruitment of C/Mers - when there is a chronic shortage of children??

What a long title....

I am NOT having a go at recently registered Childminders at all - so please don't take offence (I've only been at it less than 2 yrs)

But in my area C/Mers who have been minding for years (from 5 to 15) are all short of children. Mainly due to childrens centres/surestart nurserys/private nurserys (with Gov grants for building - not children).

However there are still adverts for childminder all over the place. And regular meeting are set up by our surestart people to induct new childminders??

Some new childminders in my network have not had any children (or maybe 1 P't) since they started over 7 months in 1 case.

Is there a problem with the Gov policies?

Any thoughts?

I would have thought somewhere between £30 and £45 per day (as although your dd would be at school in the morning, as your dd would not be doing 10 educational sessions per week, she would still be in childminders ratio during the school hours, thus you are wanting 8.15-5). Where in the UK are you located?

thanks, nanynick. we're in sussex.

well we are desperately short of childminders where I live, especially those who drop and pick up at schools. friend of mine may have to give up her teaching job if she can't find one soon.

If it helps, Brighton/Hove area (if you are that part of sussex) seems to vary from around £3.50 per hour to £5 per hour, based on data from direct.gov.uk.

Try doing a search using your nearest town at Schools Finder Direct.gov.uk - Scroll down and enter town name, or postcode in section titled Childcare and nurseries.
