Tell me about your au pair's timetable please!

We have an au pair arriving in the summer. I am a SAHM with one child (with a disability) and a five year old. I am wondering how to plan the au pairs hours. She is a good English speaker and isn't planning on taking classes during the day but attending night school.

I will need her for school runs (8.00am - 8.30am and 2.50 - 3.30) - other than that I plan to ask her to help with the cleaning for about 1.5 hours a day and the odd spot of babysitting. I am quite flexible but just wondered what others are doing.

our summer au pair has just arrived and we are settling in this week

our timetable goes something like this:

monday 2.30 - 7.30 looking after our 2yr old and making sure he is upstairs for bath time at 715 and then spending last 15 mins tidying playroom, putting toys away

tuesday 1030 - 1230 going to football with ds, then the afternoon 430-730

wednesday 430-730

thursday 230-730

friday 430-730

ds1 wakes from his nap around 230 and we quite often have playdates on the wed and friday afternoons - i don't really need that much help with housework so not sure how much help i'm being here i've realised!

my AP+ does
Mon 8.30 - 12.30 cleaning,walking dog
4.30 - 6.30 playing with kids, ironing
ditto Tues,Wed,Fri

Thurs she does 1-7 as she has college in the morning.

Fri night is baby sitting night.

why don't you ask for
morning 8-10 then
2.30 - 5.30

That sounds good Ingles2! I am very flexible but appreciate that she may need some structure so setting her hours out in advance feels a good thing to do.

No AP at present, but past and future ones very similar hours to ingles2: Mon - Fri 8-11am, 3.30-5.30pm. If they go to English lessons, they tend to be on wed or Thu am, so on that day they do the housework later, 1-30-3.30pm.

Mine doesn't do the mornings but does the after school and early evenings as I don't tend to get back until 8 or 9 pm. This is only three days a week so from 3.30 to 8.30. No cleaning or household stuff other than tidying up etc after him/herself. Everyone is supposed to make a positive contribution to family meals at the weekend though - either set table, cook, wash up or clear table, and that includes the AP.
