Does anyone know if the EYFS training is relevant to childminding?

I am currently in the process of registering and am just waiting for my certificate to come through once my CRB checks are cleared.

I really want to make a good job of it all and want to obtain a relevant qualification as soon as possible.

As I am already educated to degree level (albeit in law) can I just go straight to the EYPS course? or would I need to do something else first?

Unfortunately if you are registered before September, you have to be seen to be using the Birth to 3 framework. Obviously you need to get on the various EYFS courses in the meantime as well as first aid, child protection, etc as you would have been advised in your pre-registration course. Good luck with it all

I am doing my EYFS course on Monday and have completed first aid.

I just want to know which course everyone would recommend (if any). I have been told that the NVQ3 is not much use.

Sorry Op but which one are you talking about

  • EYFS - Early Years Foundation Stage

or

EYPS - Early Years Practioner Status

best clarfiy - otherwise you will not get the answer you want

The best bet is to look at your local training bulletin (our Childrens Services send them out two times a year). There are various courses you could do ie Diplomas for home based childcare etc. Its not imperative for a Childminder to do these courses, only personal choice. I think I can speak for a lot of Childminders in saying that its hard enough fitting in the various courses we have to do as well as working lots of hours every day without the added pressure of diplomas to consider too. But like I said, its personal choice.

just to add the NVQ3 is of use I worked bloody hard for mine and has taken me leaps above other childminders for having done so

I did mean the Early Years Practitioner Status.

Sorry about the comment re NVQ3 - it was actually someone from our Early Years Department at the Council who told me it was useless

I was wondering why because I know it is difficult
