How likey is it that ofsted would give permission for 4 under 5's?

I will be miding 2 boys (siblings) on mon, tues and weds term time only and have another parent who wants me to have her twins aged 2, One day a week on a weds. Also term time only. Therefore i would have 4 under 5's one day a week term time only. Do you think they would allow this. Someone said they would like at usable rooms in my house. I have kitchen/family room, lounge, playroom and study. Has anybody else applied and been allowed? Grateful for comments.

I have a variation that allows me to have 4 children under 5.

If the children are already on your register, it is unlikely that Ofsted wouldn't allow you the variation.

The form they ask you to fill out is long and tedious but worth it.

I don't have acres of space but it's how you organised your space that matters.

I thought you couldn't have more than 2 under 2's regardless (unless you have an assistant)? But I may be wrong as I work as a nanny; I just think I remember seeing something about this from Ofsted?

no - all CM can have 3 under 5's and some have 4, with permission from Ofsted.

It's a good job too cos all 4 of my mindees were once under two

I wouldn't recommend it though!

Hmm weird I could have sworn it was something like:

6 children under 8 years old

of these 6 children no more than 3 children under 5 years old

and of these 3 children no more than 1 child under 2 years old but can request for a max of 2 children under 2 years old where CM can prove child's needs will be met etc...

But rules can be bent for siblings and continuity of care.

Have I got that completely wrong then? And to hijack this thread a little bit does anyone know if Ofsted offers similar guidelines for nannies? I have been looking for guidelines for nannies but can only find CM info - hence why I thought I knew the correct CM ratios.

You are pretty much right, but its only 1 child under 1 year, unless you have a variation from Ofsted!

I have just applied for a variation for 4 under 5's, although this one is only for a short period (4 weeks) until dd starts full time school.

I have had 2 variations granted in the past, one for 2 days a week and the other for 5 days, but for shift work so it would never be more than 3 days of 7 that were used, itms!

I have always had a variation to care for 4 under 5........but mainly because we are so short on CM's around hetre

Love2bake · 03/07/2008 17:59

My friend applied for 4 under 5's for a temporary period of 2 weeks, and Ofsted just changed her numbers permanently.

Now she can have 4 whenever she likes.

southernbelle77 · 03/07/2008 18:01

I wish they would do that for me! This is the 3rd variation I have applied for this year (changing hours of existing children plus new starters!). And I can see that come the new year I may need another one as one of mindees will have a sibling!

MindingMum · 03/07/2008 18:12

That's interesting Love2bake because everyone I know who has this variation,it is for named children.

When any of my named children leave it would be really useful if I could just replace them - you quickly get used to the money

I know, just goes to show how fickle ofsted are!
