Car Insurance - anyone tried MotorCare from Morton Michel?

My car insurance is up for renewal, so I'm wondering which insurer to choose. As per usual, my broker has produced a renewal quote, which is class 2, not business use.
DirectLine's online system won't give me an option for profession of Nanny or Childminder, and it won't give me the option to have business cover.

So I am wondering if it may be better to approach Morton Michel, who already provide other insurance for me.
Anyone use them for motor insurance?

I would just give them a ring and see if you get a quote. You won't really be able to compare untill you get a price.

I have just insured my new car with them. I usually change my car at 3 years old, but it didn't make sense when I have lost so much money on it, so I have handed over my beautiful Mercedes Estate to my DH and he bought me a Kia Sedona as a school run car. I can leave all the car seats in it (5) and my P&T double, without havving to remove them in evenings and weekends.( DH has sold his beloved SL350)

My insurance is £340 with MM and guarantees a replacement 7 seater and it states very clearly on the policy for all activities related to childminding business.

Homeminder came in a t £500,more than I pay for my Merc!

The Kia is great, top spec, so, leather, air con front and back, park assist, sliding doors, masses of space, it's a great business tool!

Thanks.
Called them and after about 15 mins of going through questions, a policy is on its way. Cost I considered to be reasonable - though as ever quite high given 9 yrs ncd.

Glad you got it sorted Nick. For me MM wanted over £100 more than anyone else! I

As a childminder I've had a lot of trouble getting companies to commit to paper that they will insure me to carry other peoples children. As you say, you can't use the online comparison sites. Mostly the quotes and policies just say covered "for your business" which isn't enough when it comes to making a claim apparently. And the classes of business use mean different things to different companies to confuse matters further. IMO if they don't check what your business is and they choose to put a vague comment like "covered for your business" they should be obliged to cover you whatever your business is.

For 2 years I was with ecarinsurance but lost the email they sent me that said I was covered for carrying mindees. The policy didn't state I was a childminder. When I emailed to get a copy for my file they backtracked and said I wasn't covered after all

I ended up with Sheila's wheels this year. Nauseating ads, but competitive quote and I've got a letter and an email to say I'm covered as a childminder carrying other peoples children.

MM were about the same as my previous insurer was wanting. Cost is up almost £100 on last year though, I wonder why. Expect it may be a general trend in insurance these days.
