Would this put you off? Previous ofsted reports

I’m looking at sending my baby to a new nursery that’s opening soon. It’s owned by the same company as another nursery, and while researching I’ve found a few things that have made me unsure.

The existing nursery’s first two Ofsted inspections were rated Requires Improvement, and it only achieved a Good rating at its most recent inspection. I’ve also come across an Ofsted complaint outcome from 2025 which states that concerns were raised regarding safeguarding procedures, whistleblowing, staff suitability, SEND provision, and the safety and suitability of the premises and equipment. Ofsted found that some requirements were not being met, although the provider had taken action to address the issues and remains registered.

I’ve also seen that there have been two further complaints made to Ofsted.

I appreciate that settings can improve over time and that a new nursery may be run differently, but as a first-time parent it’s left me feeling quite anxious about making the right decision.

Would this put you off sending your child to a new nursery owned by the same company? Has anyone had recent experience with them, either positive or negative? I’d really appreciate any honest feedback

'Only achieved Good'.

Most settings are rated Good in the old grading system (new one without the one word judgments took over in November).

What's wrong with Good?

The complaints is a separate issue and the first you say was fixed according to OFSTED. You don't say what the others were.

Keep looking if it isnt right for you. Check out childminders too.

I wouldn't send them there no. Too much unknown as it's not open yet so you cant get a feel of the place, and that track record does not inspire confidence!

That sounds like a lot of complaints to ofsted.

@Nickyknackered
There’s nothing wrong with a Good rating at all. My concern isn’t the current rating itself, it’s the overall history. The nursery was rated Requires Improvement twice before achieving Good, and there was also an Ofsted complaint investigation relating to safeguarding and other areas where some requirements weren’t being met at the time.

I’m not saying it’s a bad nursery, and I appreciate improvements have clearly been made. I’m just trying to decide whether I’d feel comfortable sending my baby to a brand-new setting run by the same company, so I was interested in hearing other parents’ views and experiences.

@Edictfromno10 this was exactly my thoughts too. I was very impressed with the open day however it will of course be very different once the nursery is up and running. I will be requesting another visit once it is officially open but this has really put me off.

I could look past the other stuff as they things can be poor record keeping and are now fixed by the sound of it but I couldn't send my child to where the staff hired were so poorly suited a formal report wrote about it. The only exception would be if it had since changed hands.

That's not what staff suitability means in this context.

I assumed it meant not vetted or qualified. I would not send my child somewhere where management thought these things weren't critical.
