Hello! I’m relatively new to the world of nursery childcare, my LO is 12 months and started nursery in November. We’re moving to be closer to family which annoyingly means moving nursery. I’m so confused about what to do with when to give notice/when to start him at the new place/etc. we use the 30 funded hours but my current nursery have said I can’t transfer this part way through the term so that’s a bit stressful! What has everyone else done with this? My notice period at current nursery is 2 months and we don’t have a completion date yet.

Well you'll just have to give notice when you do.

Have you a new setting lined up? There's no magic answer unfortunately, you'll just have to do your best when you have more information.

i don’t think I’ve worded my post well! I’m more wondering how people have managed moving them mid funding term. My new nursery are saying that they should be able to claim the funding from half term onwards but my existing nursery say it’s done per term? I’m not sure if they’re just fobbing me off if it’s extra work for them but it’s obviously a lot of money for us if we can’t resolve it.

Ok so it does differ in each LA. They will be telling you the rules they follow which may be different if they arent in the same LA as each other.

In mine, there is a headcount day which will be the cut off. It's never as late as half term though.

It's not that its extra work, but funding is applied for and allocated at the start of each term. They can't fill that funded place with another child until the new term.

Funding can technically be moved as a private transaction, but we wouldn't be forced to. As a cm I might pay the new setting if i fell ill long term and couldn't work but I would not if a family was just leaving.

I would either give notice now and move her at easter or give notice in May for the end of summer term. You are best placed to know which is best.

You probably need to expect to be paying 1 lots of nursery fees for a short period, you won't get your moving date 2 months in advance, have you got them on the waiting list/confirmed place for the new nursery?

i haven’t sent the form back for new place yet purely as didn’t know what date to put as his starting! But we’ve decided best option is to give notice now at current space and start in 2 months at the new one as I’d rather pay old one privately a couple of weeks vs new one privately for longer like 2 months! Thanks
