Most local colleges do this - so try contacting them as they have students studying for their nursery nurse diploma's who need home experience - normally a toddler, and a baby under a year.

2point4kids · 10/06/2008 19:26

do both need to be under a year?
what about a 2yr old and a baby?

What sort of experience do they need?

SIOBHANB2008 · 10/06/2008 19:52

a 2yr old and baby does count, they have to do certain task for example feeding, changin nappies etc, this will be all be explained to you.
where do you live?

I did a baby placement when i was at college doing my NNEB. I went into the families home 10am-4pm 2 days a week, it was a bit like being in a mothers help position except you dont get paid. There was a baby and a 3 year old, i would just play with them while the mum could get on with housework, paperwork etc. Or we would go out together to do the food shopping/ soft play. Only thing is your not suppose to be left sole charge altho i would say this was at the parents discretion.

Does this apply in scotland too? I would be interested in how to find out more if it did.

FlatDullHairNeedsSaving · 11/06/2008 17:05

I did my NNEB placement with twins and a toddler. And then got paid babysitting work out of it . It did, however, completely put me off the idea of becoming a nanny which is what I was going to do.

AlisonA · 11/06/2008 18:18

I wish they had done this in Scotland when I was doing my NNEB. I always wanted to work as a nanny & not within a nursery, but going from college to a nanny position was a HUGE culture shock at age 19!!

Katmack - I dont think Scottish colleges do family placements, but it may well be worth contacting a couple of your local colleges just to check it out!!

lackaDAISYcal · 12/06/2008 17:22

oooh, I'll be contacting my local college about this as I'm due in November and DD will only be 17 months.
