I am new to this Mumsnet stuff and need some help! Looking for some childcare help a couple of days a week for a very lovely nearly year old DS. Childminder, nanny, anything. Please help. I don't know where to start looking...

Hi,
Just wondered what area you are in?

We can help more if you narrow "SW London" down a bit. Loads of childcare options in SW London so you should definitely find something.

weakmum · 10/06/2008 09:39

HI

Am a childminder in SW19. Are you in the same postcode?

BewareTheVoices · 10/06/2008 10:47

I am in Mortlake, and I just don't know anyone to ask for recommendations of childminders or nurseries. I know with a nanny I could advertise, but even there I'm not sure the best way to go about it. Sorry to sound so dumb.

Hi BTV, welcome to Mumsnet. Try Gumtree - lots of nannies advertising on there and it's very up-to-date.

www.gumtree.com

You search by London or even your area (sorry couldn't work out how to post whole link), work wanted, nannies etc and you should see a whole host of people wanting work!

CountessDracula · 10/06/2008 10:59

Hi BTV
Which days do you need?
My ex-nanny may be able to help (i live in SW14, she is in Putney)

Have you tried the local nurseries?

alos here is a list of all childminders and nurseries with immediate vacancies in SW14

BewareTheVoices · 10/06/2008 11:17

Thanks for all the tips. I am looking through the links. Countess - we are I think quite flexible on days, but ideally would like out of the home care as our place is really small with no garden really.

Hi BTW My ex nanny on Gumtree looking too (new zealander) - she currently works 2 days a week looking after a 10month old so very experienced with your age needs. Try local nurseries too though if you are looking for outside home

Good luck with your search!

anyoneoutthere · 10/06/2008 12:02

I am a nanny who might be interested. Please email me on [email protected]

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 12:07

some good childminders around - you need to look them up on Childlink and visit a few. Mines scaling back though so no hel pto you there.

(My mum lives in Mortlake...)

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 12:07

working mums nursery is supposed to be good though I'm not sure you'd get them in on short notice.

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 12:10

I'll ask my CM if you'd recommen anyone - how old is your DS? How far would you walk/drive.

Kew Riverside Nursery has spaces on a Friday I beleive but they are quite expensive but good.

BewareTheVoices · 10/06/2008 15:08

Kewcumber thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking into both of those. I was a bit put off by the fact that the Kew one is a big chain (Asquith), but I'm glad to hear it's good! Oh and the working mums nursery told me they have a new branch opening next month!

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 15:44

another MN'er Sushimummy 's little boy is at Asquith he seems to really enjoy it. I looked around and it does seem very nice but too expensive for me.

If you're so local why are you bonding with the rest of us on the MN local richmond thread [bullying emoticon]

How old is DS?

Do you want me to ask my CM if she has any mates with vacancies?

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 15:44

why aren't you ...

BewareTheVoices · 10/06/2008 16:01

Thanks Kewcumber, I have a lot to look at/think about now, but I'll let you know if the ones I've contacted so far don't work out. Thanks everyone else too, I'm really amazed at the number of suggestions, and how quickly everyone responded! I didn't realised Kewcumber that there was an active Richmond thread? Sorry if I should have posted there instead..

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 16:03

come and have a chat

AtheneNoctua · 10/06/2008 16:18

Good luck with that thread. Hope you have nothing else to do.

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 16:19

thats a bit bitchy , plenty of people dip in and out of it, only those of us bored in work post endlessly.

AtheneNoctua · 10/06/2008 16:31

Are you kidding? That is the chattiest thread I ever new -- except maybe for the Due in June 2005 thread.

However, "bitchy" seems a tad harsh.

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 16:35

sorry I was obviously "hearing" a tone that wasn't there! I have been unusually grumpy on MN this week - blame it on back-to-work-itis

AtheneNoctua · 10/06/2008 16:44

It's okay. I only meant it in jest as I have clearly failed to maintain any existance in that circle.

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 16:48

I think there are fewer evening and weekend meet-ups than there used to be. But there still are some if you want to join in.

Kewcumber · 10/06/2008 16:50

also we moved it to MN local as asked my MN who were trying to promote the local boards but IMHO its a nightmare because it doesn't appear on anyone active threads anymore so its easy to forget and if newbies haven;t signed up to local then they never find it.

CountessDracula · 10/06/2008 16:52

Dd went to Working Mums (as did a few others on here I know)

It was gorgeous!
