Nanny Christmas Gift/Bonus

I know this has been asked before but wondering what to do for nanny Christmas gift? I am thinking cash in a card… She is new and has only been with us for 3 months, works 3 days a week, so what would be a reasonable amount? I’m thinking £200 in a card?

That sounds very thoughtful & kind — how does the sum relate to her weekly salary? ( I’m not a nanny or employer, no idea of any standard %s that may be used)

£200 would be lovely!

When I worked 3+ years in a very intense job for a lawyer, I did get £1000 bonus, which was to be honest life changing at the time! I don’t, didn’t and never expect that again. Last year (different family) I got £200 Boots voucher which was fab and topped up all my make up, and previously I’ve been given things like a case of wine, and another time a spa voucher. All incredibly appreciated. The one I didn’t appreciate was the bag hastily filled up with their Christmas excess of mince pies, a pack of ham and an opened bottle of brandy even though I worked until late Christmas Eve! But they weren’t the nicest employers and clearly that year I was an afterthought.

I think that’s very generous of you considering she’s only been with you for three months and works part time 🩷🙂

It depends on your circumstances and hers.

if you can easily afford it then sure why not.

Remember though you are setting a precedent for future gifts.

Our kids went to nursery rather than to a nanny so not sure how the pay compares.

That's lovely and very generous of you. Be sure to add something a little personal like a homemade card from the children x

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 26/11/2025 23:09

I think that's really generous, if you can afford it, I'm sure it'll be appreciated. If the kids are older than babies, we always got them to do a card for our nanny or something like a photo collage, and then I'd normally give maybe £25-50 in a card and a bottle of something she liked, or the perfume I knew she wore. It was probably much lower value than £200 but we did think about it and put some effort in, (maybe I'm tight but we did pay well!) She always seemed to appreciate it.

Our nanny has been with us 4 years. We usually do c £500 bonus at Christmas plus a gift (voucher for manicure and bunch of flowers) and cards from the kids

JacknDiane · 29/11/2025 19:39

Wow, that's very generous @maxandru

Honestly it’s about the same for everyone we know locally who has a nanny. I was really shocked when I asked around the first year - but seems it’s normal 🤷🏼‍♀️

(wish I got a Christmas bonus myself though, haha!!)

HouseWithASeaView · 29/11/2025 20:12

We always got the children to choose a box of chocolates (which depending on their age ranged from jelly babies “as she likes yellow”
to ones she’d mentioned liking in their hearing) and then we gave a small gift of something we knew she’d like and then the equivalent of a week’s salary in cash as a bonus. With our last nanny, she started in mid-November so we changed to giving her the bonus on her anniversary of being with us as then she had the extra cash in the run up to Christmas so could use it for her own shopping or nights out rather than being in the situation of having to wait until just before Christmas to know if she was going to get one or not.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 29/11/2025 20:15

As you’ve said, the question has been asked before. I’ve seen replies from nannies that range a bottle of wine kind of level to a month’s salary. It’s an eye opener!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/12/2025 21:39

I always got a weeks salary but many didn’t

as she has been with you 3mths and part time I assume £200 is about half her gross wage

Squiffy01 · 03/12/2025 21:49

I think that’s a great amount and also lovely to get cash then can put it towards something she wants.

Edictfromno10 · 03/12/2025 21:55

A weeks salary is the custom and the amount we give our nanny- she's very good and has been with us since I went back to work with my oldest - so important to us to make sure she knows she is valued!
