Ive had an enquiry about a mindee starting in January. Since its such a long way off should I charge a deposit, if so, how much. Any advice appreciated.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Won't you be losing a lot of money if you hold a place for 6 months? Or would not likely fill the slot anyway? If you are losing money, I would think of a retainer, or maybe half retainer and half deposit?

is the place available now?
how places have you got free at the moment?

Call it a retainer fee. To me a deposit sounds as though it is something that could be refunded in the future. You won't be refunding it, will you? Thus, call it a retainer fee.

Yes, do charge a retainer fee, as you are allocating the child's place now. How much you charge is another matter, 1/2 fee, 3/4 fee, full fee.

Thanks guys, ive taken your comments on board. I haven the space at the moment and would probably have to have a reshuffle and maybe lose a child that only comes for a few hours per week.

I have interviewed the client and it all depends what days her job offers her and if it fits in with me. We will wait and see.

Just making sure... is my Monday in July still good?

If the place is not available you cannot charge a retainer. Take a deposit but put the funds on deposit somewhere in case when it comes to it, you cannot offer a place, in which case you'd have to repay the deposit.

Hi AtheneNoctua. Yes July is still ok. Looking forward to it. Did you manage to get fixed up with a babysitter. I might be able to get help.

No, I didn't. Anything you could suggest would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My friend is a childminder and has 2 grown up daughters. One lives away and she thinks she is coming up that week. I will let you know if she can help out.
