Sorry about that

So Its my first inspection due soon and would love some advice from you fellow Childminders, what do I expect, what should I plan-normally we are out and about a lot, what should I do seeing as we should be in, has anyone got any great activity tips that I could use?

Lastly, tell me it will all be ok and the nasty Ofsted people wont eat me.

I had my 3rd in March this year and was fine, and only lasted 1 hour.

Top Tips:

  1. Ensure p/work up to date
  2. make sure the garden etc is safe.
  3. have multi cultaral toys ready to show the inspector. Anything that features different races, diabled, people with glasses etc.
  4. They may ask if you have celebrated any Multi Cult holidays. I said we have made chinese lanterns for chinese new year.
  5. I made a timetable to show what we did each week, and included a variety of different activities.
  6. I also drew up Individual plans for each of the children (in line with EYFS), this impressed the inspector.
  7. Be aware of EYFS and have the booklets out, and say that you are refering to these.

If you know who is coming, you can also look on-line and see what the inspector has been looking for when doing other visits. Go to the ofsted website and search other reports for you Inspectors name... will give you a good head-ups.

Don't worry, all the inspectors i have had have been really helpful.

Like love2bake's list.

Add to that :

Paper towels for handwashing

At my last inspection we

Had snacktime
Did some crayoning
Had rhyme time with the musical instruments
Let the children have free play

She was in and out within 2 and a half hours, a lovely lady

You will be fine

OOhhh paper towels eh? is that more hygienic then than a normal towel?

Also my concern is this, the little lad I look after is only 1 and still needs a nap but he will only go off in the buggy or the car-will the lady/man come with me out on a walk/drive or does the inspection have to be inhouse so to speak?

iMum - yes for hygiene purposes OFSTED seem to prefer paper towels, use and dispose.

I had my Inspection on a dangerously windy day in January, and told the Inspector that under no circumstances would I take the children out - so windy that the back door was wrenched from my hand - she accepted this. I should think that your Inspector would expect to go outside with you, probably in the garden, at some point.

HTH

They are really hot on hygeine.

If you have nappy changes, they insist you do it on a mat and use anti-bac to clean it every time. Some have even said gloves are a good idea!
