As parents where are the top 5 places you´d be likely to look for an available nanny?

Are there any places you´d be less likely to use a nanny from? Ie if they´d responded to an ad (this is ridiculous, but just an example) in a bar, nightclub, etc?

Any original ideas that you´ve seen or can think of?

Thanks!!

Read the strand in this section I started called First Step in finding a nanny - there are loads of ideas on there from people on how to get started, websites etc.

Know what you mean about where you advertise and who that might attract...but...nanny's party too...
Good luck.

gumtree is fantastic. you'll get lots of flakey responses but in amongst the no hopers will be some gems.

www.netmums.co.uk www.nannyjob.co.uk

www.greatcare.co.uk

if there was an ad in the nightclub, and someone responsed, does that make them a bad nanny?

you placed the ad there !!

AtheneNoctua · 02/06/2008 17:11

nannyjob.co.uk
gumtree.com
greataupair.com (for live in only)

I would not hire someone from mumsnet. Just don't fancy having a nanny who wants to chat with me on MN.

And I would not use an agency, but that's mostly because of the cost -- not exclusively but mostly.

AtheneNoctua · 02/06/2008 17:12

Oh, and I wouldn't have a problem with the night club. Isn't clubbing perfectly normal behaviour for for a twentysomething nanny?

imananny · 02/06/2008 17:19

or thirty something!!

i can understand not wanting to employ a nanny from MN but how would you know?

there are lots of nannies who come on here, including myself

OrganiseMe · 02/06/2008 17:19

The club example wasn´t good. I was trying to think of an example which was of something that´d be totally unacceptable, so a club was rubbish!!

Athene, so you wouldn´t use an agency, but what about subscribing to a newsletter featuring available nannies? Considerably cheaper than an agency but still involving a cost, a subscription fee of 20 for so many ads??

I know england do have something like this. At present scotland doesn´t, just enquiring about it at the mo.

like www.simplychildcare.com

thing is, if you put an ad up anywhere/somewhere then you cant moan against a nanny replying to it

AtheneNoctua · 02/06/2008 17:25

I would if I was specifically seeking an English nanny or at least one who lived in England. But, as it happens, I don't mind having a foreign nanny so long as she can organise her own work visa (i.e. Holiday Maker).

imananny, you are right I would know if she typed on here. But I wouldn't seek one through this website. I just like to have my space I guess. It's not a big deal. I just wouldn't seek her out on here.

imananny · 02/06/2008 17:28

completley understand athena - nice to have own space to come here and have a moan/giggle etc

AtheneNoctua · 02/06/2008 17:34

Sometimes you want to put something out there and get other peoples opinions before you are ready to tackle it with nanny, even when it's a good thing. For example, a while ago I felt I had been a bad employer one week (left embarrassing pile of dishes for nanny which were mine and had nothing to do with kids, showed up late, etc.) so I started a thread asking what sort of gift I should get her (ended up with spa gift certificate). But, obviously, the surprise would have been a bit spoiled if she had been on the thread.

imananny · 02/06/2008 17:53

aww bless you getting your nanny a spa voucher

you never know she might be on here

AtheneNoctua · 02/06/2008 17:56

Did I mention that I lurve her?

(just covering my bases)

imananny · 02/06/2008 17:58

PMSL

sure she lurves you tooooooooooooo!!

imananny · 02/06/2008 18:01

but back to the OP

where organise me wouldnt you want a nanny to reply to an ad, that you have put up?

if the ad is there, surely you want replies!!
