Should childminder settling in sessions involve a nap time?

For the infant to have a go at getting to sleep with the childminder, and vice versa?

I only offer 2 hours as a free settling in session so not usually time for a nap.
Some parents like to start their child slowly and build up though, just a morning, then morning and lunch, them morning/lunch/nap.
Some prefer just to go straight in to the full day.

No I wouldn't expect a settling in nap time.

I think the settling in session is best used for the child to experience some activities and the general awake time routine. Obviously this is assuming the settling in session is the usual short couple of hours rather than a full day.

Also, getting in to a nap time routine often takes a little bit longer. I wouldn't necessarily expect a particularly successful nap time on day 1.

Thank you both.

I would have thought if the child was there and needed a nap, then it’s the appropriate care to provide for them.

I do settling in sessions at set times, building up, to fit in with our schedule. If that covers their usual nap time and they seem to want one, they will be offered a nap.

It’s a two hour session and I’m not quite sure how we can make the timings work. From waking up to needing a nap is exactly three hours. So somehow, I have to get us up, ready, dressed, out of the house and dropped off at the CM’s within 30 mins of waking…!

Then after the two hours there, I have 30 mins to collect, bring home and settle before the nap.

Baby can nap on the way home.
Or change this visit to an hour or hour and a half if it's stressing you.
When you start full days pick your baby up early for the first week if you want to ease them in.

You're going to have to start being flexible though as the childminder presumably has multiple children to look after and her own routine, outings and maybe school runs, she's not going to be able to always settle your baby for a nap on a rigid routine.

Can you not just arrange the settling in around your baby's nap? Agree with other poster that your child won't necessarily keep a strict routine once they are in childcare.
