Had great views on nanny vs nursery but what are peoples views on childminder vs nanny (apart from the cost difference). Looking for care 3 days a week for 19month old and 6 month old daughters.
A message from someone just got me thinking on this...
any view points appreciated

you migth have trouble finding a CM with a part-time space for a baby and an older child

Good grief you had two children in 13 months.

I think a childminder is good if you don't mind packing up and doing the childcare run, doing the kids laundry, etc. A nanny is good if yo are very busy and need someone to pick up the domestic child related chores, including baby food, etc.

I know 13 months apart and it was planned that way too! has its advantages - honest!
Good point re the packing things up etc.

last job children were 13mths apart - tbh its almost easierhaving them close together as with a baby and 3/4/5 yr old, you HAVE to be out of the house early for school/nursery.

sometimes we didnt get out of house till 10am

as your children are so young and close together, a nanny would make your life easier - they come to you, and will take you as you are - a CM, you have to get yourself and children up, washed and dressed and possibly fed and then take them to cm house

most cm dont provide food for under 1`s (check this out) so it means in the mornings getting them ready and out of the door with lunch in tow

as a cm i would do 3 days for the 2 children as its easy over here to fill the other 2 days (all my children are part time)

it really depends on your job/hours

a nanny would be able to come to your house (or live with you) and get the children up when they wake, give them breakfast get them dressed etc
a cm you would have to get them up (maybe wake them up) get them dressed and get them to the cm house before work

as i said depends on the hours and your job

good luck

I agree with all the replies you have currently had. A nanny is good if you dont mind somebody being in your house and don't want to be rushing about. But it depends on how early you are starting really, and also where your work is from your house. Ie, if you are driving past the CM house anyway. And some provide breaskfast.

I am starting as a childminder and wouldn't think 3 days a week would be hard to provide, some people would like to do it part time. I am also hoping to provide breafast and lunch, included in my prices. And I would be more than happy to provide lunch for an under 1 if I were to look after one.
