I know that you can tell ofsted that there are various bits of equiptment that you will be buying for your grant etc, but what needs to be in place for the reg visit? policies and procedures? or does it vary from inspector?

I think a list of policies you want/intend to have would be good, along with a list of equipment & toys

I showed my Inspector a 'wish list' of items that I would like to buy in the future.

I also had my stairgate up, cupboard catches on, plugs covered etc at the time of the registration visit.

My inspector was not interested on whether I had policies she was more interested in whether I had booked onto the mandatory courses, or had looked into when and where they were to be held.

Ummm what else

This was quite a few years ago now, have gone blank.

Oooh yes, have you children lined up?

My Inspector was curious as to when I wanted to start minding.

Ah, something else ......

Planning.

Could you draw up a rough note of the activites you plan to undertake, say divide the year into the four seasons, then under each season divide into topics, eg Spring, baby animals=sticking lambs/chicks/daffodils, colours geen yellow blue, explore mixing colours, bug hunting expeditions, foraging for spring collage material = leaves/flowers/twigs. Sorry if a bit indepth for your question !!

Good luck

That helps thanks, need to do quite a bit more work me thinks before i submit paperwork, got the impression from the co-ordinators that it was basically just to check who you are

Submit paperwork by all means, there is usually delay of a month or two before the visit.

You will be fine, and will know more about EYFS than us established CMs do

Checking who you are is certainly part of it!

You certainly don't need to be ready to start straight away - as long as you've thought about what you want to do and have made some sort of plan eg. wish lists for equipment you want to get like boysarelikedogs said, some idea of the numbers and age ranges of children you intend to care for, have at least seen someone change a nappy before it should be fine!

Inspectors are mostly looking at whether you seem like a suitable person to care for kids and that your house/flat/whatever is suitable too. That doesn't mean you've got to have gates etc up if you don't have young children around already, but things like you don't have broken glass, used needles and dog poo everywhere and when they ask you things you don't say stuff like "I manage children's unruly behaviour by locking them in cupboards!"

I had my pre reg today. paper work was sent off about 2 weeks ago! My inspector was very strict I think (right down to inspeecting the skirting boards for dirt!) BUT I think most are alot more laid back at the pre reg. Mine got me to walk round my house and point out every potention danger and how I have or would reduce risks etc. I had already sorted safety film, cupboard locks, stair gates etc.

Mine wouldn't register my garden as there were poisonous plants (that I didnt realise). She also wouldn't register my spare room as my cats go in there - even though they have access to the whole of downstairs and she didnt mind that. Even though i said they would not have access to it from now on. Oh well.

Have you done your ICP course?

SillyMillysMummy · 30/05/2008 09:14

chloemegjess - how strange, just because the cats go in there

yes have done the icp a few weeks ago, have got the written test on Monday, i really want to get the inspection sorted but i know that the house isnt ready yet, still got bits of painting to do and a floor to lay, let alone the whole childproofing thing (even though i had a 3year old dd myself) need to pull me finger out i think
