Has anyone managed to 'register' a nanny in Scotland in order to use tax saving childcare vouchers? We are struggling!

I thought in Scotland you had to get the nanny via an Agency, which is registered with the Care Commission. So it is the agency rather than the nanny themselves who is registered.

I know an agency owner in Scotland, will see if I can get her to come on here and explain how childcare vouchers work in Scotland.

In Scotland only registered or approved childcare includes:
childcare given in the child?s own home by (or introduced through) childcare agencies, including sitter services and nanny agencies, which must be registered.
source: HMRC EI Manual

Also see leaflet from ChildcareLink (Scotland).

How are you trying to register a nanny in Scotland exactly? Are you using a nanny agency?

Hi!

Nick - thanks for pointing this out to me. I dont get much time to come on here at the moment, so don't get to check any messages that may need input from a Scottish agency.

With regards to "registering" a nanny to claim childcare vouchers or the childcare element of working tax credits, nannies in Scotland cannot be registered. You would need to go through an agency that is registered with The Care Commission, in order to obtain the relevant registration documentation from them. (Unlike England, nannies up here cannot be registered. However, as Nick mentioned, agencies are registered, as are childminders & nurseries etc). If you have found your own nanny, we do have a process where the nanny would come into our office & go through the same checks as any other nanny wishing to register with us. We would then charge the clients a one off fee, which would include the price of a new Enhanced Disclosure for the nanny & then the details can be handed out to the clients, in order that they can make their claim.

If you would like more information, please feel free to send me a message & I can send you some information. (I dont think I am allowed to mention my agency on here etc, but would be happy to pass on any information privately.)

I hope this helps.

Alison

Thanks Alison. Useful to know that agencies up in Scotland have ways of helping parents who do the recruitment themselves.

Many thanks for that info.
