Ok, this EYFS thing. Who monitors it? Who would know if I didn't do it?

Obviously Ofsted monitor it. But if they only check you are doing it when you are inspected then what's the point? My mindees' parents don't give two hoots so why should I bother?

FWIW I left teaching because of paperwork and I'll stop childminding if it's too much hassle.

as far as i know , they only look at your monitoring when they do inspections, if you don't do it at all the best grade you can get is satisfactory - so if you're happy with that grade don't bother with the paperwork?!

all i'm gonna do is get a display folder for each mindee and put one piece of work[drawing/writing] in a week with a quick paragraph relating to it - h t h

Might not bother then!

i think i little book of their work would be a nice thing to give them at the end of a year or when they start school - it's nice for kids to see how far they have come with writing and drawing.

have you done the EYFS training? i've seen locally they're offering a planning/evaluation? course - might tell you more about whether it is a legal requirement.

GordontheGopher · 27/05/2008 21:59

Yes I've done it but I was doodling the whole way through and have no idea what they were on about.

I do a daily diary already with my own comments on their development but I'm not sure what else is involved and I feel like rebelling against it all!

Whats to stop chilminders just writting down all the obs at the last minute?
My childminder a couple of years ago, used to do something similar to EYFS all my herself, she would take photos over the year and present it to us as a Xmas present, which is something i've always treasured.
I think parents would be more interested in pictures of their children enjoying themselves than reams and reams of writting.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 28/05/2008 10:35

you don't need to do reams of writing!!
ripeberry what your minder did sounds like exactly what ofsed want but they just want you to link it to the new EYFS framework.

personally the kids i mind all go to pre-school/nursery for part of the day so when they're with me i just let them play i do "just" mind them - we go out to groups and walks and the park and library BUT they're just playing and that is what the new EYFS framework is saying kids learn through play {no surpise there then}

gordon - you rebel!! i'm sure they won't revoke your reg. if you don't monitor!

GordontheGopher · 28/05/2008 12:27

Ooh yes feeling very rebellious! Might even start giving them biscuits as snacks .
