I ofetn shop at the farmers market - it really isn't practical to get food receipts

So what do I do - record where the food is from in a book or something?

id record how much you spent each time you go showing how much of it will be used for the children.

Read about this in NCMA Who Minds Mag - P 16, Summer 2008 edition...

Am a newly reg. CM.. Have registered with Environmental Health as a "Food Business" This to me seems ridiculous.. Keeping receipts for every food item we buy even if less than £10..

Don't know about you, but my Husband will often pick up Yogurt / Milk / Bread etc on his way home. We eat it, my mindee eats it... Do I have to tell him to keep all the receipts..

I think this is a tad overzealous. It says it is to be able to trace food for Food Poisoning incidents...

Health and Safety gone mad, or am I just whining?

inceywincey · 27/05/2008 21:37

I don't think your whining at all...I just read that in 'who minds' myself, and nearly fell over....I have been registered for 3 years and used to keep all receipts, but then went on an inland revenue course who said we certainly didn't have too! I have been throwing away random receipts and am now panicking that i might have needed them! This is all absolutely ridiculous....surely if a child got food poisoning from your setting then it would be obvious anyway....if you ask me it is all getting a bit out of hand! lol xxxx

GordontheGopher · 27/05/2008 21:41

Sorry, have I missed something? I registered last June and the Inland Revenue guy said only for stuff over £10 are necessary - what's all this about food?

God I'm going to stop this childminding crap.

think we need to raise this to somebody as you say you dont often get receipts from the corner shops

PinkChick · 28/05/2008 09:39

well to confuse things further, i am classed as EXEMPT from the food hygeine register, so dont know why any of you have to do this???
I have the certificate to prove it!?

ayla99 · 28/05/2008 09:40

Its the food hygiene rules that require receipts of all food purchases to be kept - to enable tracing of food in case of food hygiene. Don't know how that will help - I have receipts from Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury and the corner shop and I've no way of knowing which box/tin came from which shop!

The situation with tax I believe has changed in that your turnover can now be £30,000 (? is that in this years NCMA book, haven't got it yet)instead of £15,000 before you have to keep receipts for purchases up to £10. For tax purposes, my understanding is that if you buy anything from thrift sales, jumble sales, classieds etc you should can ask someone to sign how much you paid, date and what for. But in the absence of any other proof you write out the date, time, value of purchases and what you bought & method of payment.
