hi i'm 26 and live in cheshire with my partner and gorgeous lil girl Alyssa. i have wanted to be a nanny/childminder since i was about 9 so went straight to college after school. i did 3 years of training and got a diploam in childcare with a distinction. i have worked in nurseries or schools for about 3 years after college and then had my daughter. shes 3 now and i work for a telecomunications team but my hearts not in it. i miss looking after children. not bragging or wanting to sound big headed but i'm really good at it. kids dont get on my nerves (well alyssa does sometimes. lol) but other peoples kids just seam to be little angels to me no matter wot they do. and i'm good at defusing tantrums in a fun way. kids seam to love bein with me as much as i love bein with them. i love knowing that i am helping a mum/dad/nan etc by looking after their children, the most imprtant things in their lives as well as they would whilst they work. but anyway. i have lost all of my certificates due to moving 3 times in the past 2 years and dont know if i would ever get another job because of this. what do you think? opinions very welcome. i asked the colege for copies but they dont think that will be possible.

From a childminding POV you don't need any qualifications to start! All the training you need is taken care of when you start registering. Can in touch with your local council and get on a induction course. It will probably take 6 months + to get registered.

i was thinming of doing that. we have quite a big house and its already child safe because of alysa. i would love to be a live out nanny again tho. dont think i'm going to be able to now tho. i was registered with cheshire nannies when i left college but i couldnt drive then so never got any offers. they had a copy of my certificates but they havnt kept them.

The examination board will have a record of your certificates and may be able to issue a copy. You will need to know the full title of your course and the date you qualified. Each examination board will have their own procedure and may require additional information and proof of ID. Contact your examination board for details of cost. CACHE are one of the large examination boards in the childcare sector, so I would guess your course was via them.

For Childminding, you have to do the ICP regardless of any prior qualifications, so as Maureen says, contact your local Children's Information Service and ask about Childminder registration and training.

CACHE charge £25 for a duplicate certificate. You can download the form to request a certificate search at CACHE - Duplicate Certificates

It might have been BTEC if she got "distinction", Edexcel work on Pass, Merit & Distinction, CACHE work on grades.
