Can anyone clarify this for me?

I'm sure that this has probably been discussed at length here before but I can't see the thread if it has. I have heard from various sources that as part of EYFS CM's are going to have to have some sort of food safety certificate. Does anyone know if this is true? I can't find an answer anywhere on-line and I'm not sure who else to ask! I'm sure there's someone here who'll know!

According to P.27 "Providers should be aware of their responsibilities under food hygiene legislation including
registration with the relevant Local Authority Environmental Health Department."

This is not compulsory. Its a "should" which means you don't HAVE to do it - its guidance not statutory. But you may find it difficult to achieve a high grade at inspection should you choose not to carry out the "shoulds".

Childminder's responsibilities under food hygiene legislation are that we are required to register with the local authority Environmental Health Department as a food premises. Even if you dont prepare any food on the premises (relevant to storage of packed lunches, baby milks etc).

This has been a legal requirement since January 2006 and nothing to do with EYFS. However, when the law changed in 2006, nobody told childminders and many E. Health depts didn't think about us either. So many people are still in the process of registering.

Ayla - I have phoned EH about 6 times & they still won't register me - but how do I prove it?
