OFSTED V SURESTART

I am a nanny who is Surestart approved. My understanding is that parents can pay me in vouchers and they might be able to claim tax back

For the parents, i think this is the same as if im OFSTED registered

So why , if parents are looking for OFSTED nannies, will they not accepct my Surestart approval? They have ben told it has to be OFSTED

Have i got it wrong?

I might be wrong, am only a parent, but my understanding is that Surestart approved is different to OFSTED, in that an OFSTED nanny would be following the birth to three national curriculum and would be assessed by OFSTED on that provision. Whereas I don't think that's true for Surestart approved. I'm not sure, but if that's what I think, I guess that's what the other parents are thinking too. That might provide you with a starting point anyway.

I can't help with an answer, but why not give a quick call to OFSTED? The number is 08456 404044, and they are usually pretty helpful.

I didnt think nannies followed a curriculum? I never have done (but maybe thats where im going wrong!?)

I've never had a nanny. But I've read that some childminders are OFSTED and therefore follow birth to three curriculum and are OFSTED inspected. My DS is at nursery where they follow curriculum. That phone number from LadyK will no doubt provide more help!

try ringing your local children's information service, they can usually help. I am pretty sure they are very different though

anyoneoutthere · 19/05/2008 12:14

chloemegjess - in what way do you think they're very different?

If i ring OFSTED, will they know details on Surestrt too?

the surestart scheme has been changed over to ofsted. Surestart scheme requirements were a little different, but not much. Insurance was one thing i recall that is different.
Nannies do not have to do EYFS. Your surestart reg is valid untill renewal date, so parents can use it to pay using childcare vouchers. Would however suggest you register with ofsted as soon as you can, as the process can take a while.
When does your surestart expire?

anyoneoutthere · 19/05/2008 12:55

My Surestart runs out in Dec. So why are parents saying its no good? A lot of them are being told it HAS to be OFSTED

How can i persuade them Surestart has the same 'effect' as OFSTED?
