Maternity allowance and funded childcare

Hi everyone! Looking for some help…
I’m currently working as a part time teacher, however my husband got a job in another county from September and we are moving away- gave my notice and found out almost straight away that I am pregnant (lol). As per my understanding, I will be getting maternity allowance as I resigned before 15 weeks pregnant and, even though my original idea was to get a job in the new place, I highly doubt I will be able to get another job 8+ months pregnant!😂

Anyway, this is a tricky one as I have a 2 year old that currently has 15 funded hours of childcare… As I won’t have a job to come back to, would I even get funding for her to have a few hours of nursery/childcare? I intend to find another job next year, but the thought of moving to a new area and looking after a toddler and a newborn baby while my husband works crazy hours sounds terrifying… That is more than a full time job!
Any advice/ideas?
Thank you!

Surely funded childcare is to enable parents to work not just because they can’t/ don’t want to look at the children they have chosen to have. It’s not a walk in the park but honestly it’s not that hard.

Wow! Sorry if I have offended you. What I meant is that, if one of the conditions for funded childcare is to work a certain amount of hours per week, it is clear that having a newborn is clearly a heavy workload. I appreciate any advice and I’m def don’t have to justify myself or my love for my little ones, but it’s a bit sad to feel that it’s ok to shame someone behind a screen. Have a fab day!

How is that shaming you? As a taxpayer (and I pay a massive amount of tax), I want my money to go to those who need it - women who have to work outside the home, not parents who can't cope with looking after children they chose to have.

Op I don’t mean to shame you and I’m not offended at all I just think it’s sad that so many parents today feel the prospect of caring for more than one child is too hard and that the children will be better off cared for by strangers. If anything I would say believe in your own capabilities.

absolutely tons of parents look after a toddler and newborn. It’s frankly ridiculous that you think you shouldn’t have to and there should be some funding for you? Fine some families pay for it and that’s their choice and I have no issue with that.

Im not working right now and it would never cross my mind that the government should look after my kids (preschooler; toddler and newborn). If you choose to have children you should be able to look after them yourself

Yep agree. Do you really want to be expending your Mat Allowance on childcare bills while you're at home anyway?

Presumably your eldest will be 3 or almost 3 anyway when baby arrives, if they are 2 now? Then it won't be long until they'll get the universal 15hrs from the term after they are 3.

My kids are 2 and 4. It's hard work of course but totally doable. My DH was out of the country with work when baby was 5w and eldest was 2 and a few months. We survived. So will you 🫶
