i am moving out of house i currently share with ex-p in hopefully the next 4-6 weeks. dcs will be with me in the week almost all the time as ex-p leaves for work at 5.45am.

currently i drop dcs at their cm every morning at 7.45 then get a taxi to the station & work (i dont drive). cm has them before & after school & during hols. ex-p collects in the evening at 5.30.

i will be moving closer to station & work - about 4 miles from where we currently live & where school is - intention is dcs stay at current school.

i am undecided what to do re childcare however which as the move hopefully gets closer is worrying me.

at first i thought i would arrange taxi from new house to existing cm daily for dcs & possibly home again if ex wont drop them back to me. however have been reliably informed most taxis wont take unaccompanied children which may be a problem......

they could get the bus straight to school but they have to cross a busy road at the other end & whilst eldest (10) would be fine, youngest (7) i feel is too young.

colleagues suggested i get an au pair to do before & after school, and using a mothers help has also been recommended to me althuogh not sure what that is, nor how to find one; we dont have any spare room so could not accomodate anyone live in, and there are no cms in new area who cover dcs school.

as a last resort i could move their school but i would really prefer not to if possible.

any thoughts/advice please?

Au Pair might be your solution.
We also have no spare room, I share with dd2 so that the AP can have a room, because we simply cannot manage without her.

i personally think that if there is a crossing they can use on the road at the other end, your eldest is old enough to support your youngest to cross the road. i'd agree if theres no crossing that's more of an issue.
