Nanny on mondays

Hello,

I am looking to hire a nanny/ helper on Mondays for a few hours. It'll only be on Mondays.

What happens to Bank Holidays in this case? We won't need her to work then but will we have to pay her as well ofor bank holiday Mondays?

She would be entitled to at least 28 days paid holiday as a fill time employee. You will need to pay her for a pro rata equivalent, that is 20% of 28 (or 5.6 days). She would then need to use that paid leave on the bank holidays.

In practice, you might want to offer a bit more than the statutory minimum leave because she would otherwise have no leave left to take on dates of her own choosing.

Thank you for coming back so quickly, so if there are more than 5.6 days of bank holidays then it will be unpaid for her? The complications is it won't even be a full day, will only be 3-4 hours every Monday, so I suppose it'll be prorated even further? I am happy to cover the cost for when we are away, but as it's only 3-4 every Monday it sounds a lot of we have to cover her other holidays too

It will vary each year depending on when Christmas falls.
She will always need to take off
Easter Monday
2 x May bank holidays
1 x August bank holiday
thus using up 5 of her days.
If Christmas Day falls on a Monday, she will need to take both that and New Year's Day. If Boxing Day falls on a Monday, she will need to take that.
Whichever way it falls, she won't be able to take any discretionary days off so she won't be able to go away at other times of the year if you insist she uses all of her leave on bank holiday days.
You are going to need to use a payroll company so why don't you discuss this with them? It may be that you agree to give her more than the statutory minimum of holidays and make it clear how they have to be used when there is a bank holiday.
